The most popular Croatian National Park is Plitvice Lakes. National Park Plitvice Lakes – a woody mountainous region with a string of 16 smaller and larger lakes of a crystal blue and green colour. They are supplied by water from numerous small rivers and streams and are interconnected with foamy cascades and forest falls. This national park was established some 70 years ago and has the distinction of being one of Southeast Europe’s oldest national nature parks. Due to the beauty and plethora of natural wonders, Plitvice was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  This national park is renowned for its beautiful cascading waterfalls and placid lakes. The highest waterfall in Croatia is the Large (Great) Waterfall (aka Veliki slap in Croatian) – 78 meters high situated at the very end of the Lower Lakes.

On its green path, it has seven falls, the last one being Skradinski buk with an average flow of 55 cubic meters of water per second. Krka National Park  is rich in flora and fauna. 222 bird species live there, making it one of the most valuable ornithological areas in Europe.
