Walking holiday in Tuscany combining leisurely walks along footpaths, and Roman roads across undulating hills, with visits to sleepy hamlets and mediaeval towns such as Siena, Cortona and Montepulciano. Along the way, we find frescoes by famous painters still in their original settings. We stay in a luxurious yet rustic farmhouse set in the heart of Tuscany's vineyards and olive groves from which we set out each day to discover something new. So there's no need to pack and unpack luggage once we have arrived!
In Tuscany, we make a gastronomic journey through traditional local dishes. The biggest influence on Tuscan cooking has been simple peasant cooking: we savour soups such as ribollita; pasta dishes with mushrooms and truffles or the good old traditional tomato and meat ragu' sauces with pecorino and aged parmesan cheeses sprinkled on generously; fruits of the land such as pine nuts, grapes and rosemary are used liberally; enjoy panna-cotta or Cantuccini biscuits dipped in Vin Santo for dessert. The list is endless and mouthwatering.
Food in Italy goes with wine and Tuscany always sparks off ideas of Chianti in a straw-covered flask; The famous Chianti Classico, Vino Nobile, Brunello and Vernaccia are synonymous with the wines coming from Tuscany's sun-drenched slopes. We will also be introducing you to some less well-known names with pleasant surprises.
The beautiful land of Tuscany has influences from the Etruscans, the Romans, and the status seeking Guelphs and Ghibellines. All these people have left their marks in the architecture of the towns, castles and monasteries which dominate the skyline in all directions.
Tuscany is a man-made garden full of secret wonders. Rich in culture and heritage, preserved and treasured by its own people, it is just waiting for you to discover it!

Tuscany in the Spring enjoys long mostly sunny days and moderate temperatures. About 8 °C (46.4 °F) to 20 °C (68 °F) - perfect for hiking!
There may be occasional rain but it is a doddle with waterproof boots and a boiler-room for wet clothing. It is a good time of year for it, many shades of green and spring flowers too!
There are no crowds so you can explore freely and relax completely. The swim in the hot Thermal Spa baths is a great way to indulge too!
You should also plan on bringing a totally waterproof rain jacket, even though showers usually don't last long.
Plan on layering your clothes. Some days or part of the day it will be nice and warm and some moments it can be cool.
Getting out and about on foot is a wonderful way to slow down the pace, relax and get some healthy exercise.
When we walk we see so much more - grape vines, wild flowers, ancient oaks, wheat fields, cypress lined avenues, time resistant hills and valleys. As we stroll through historic hill towns we learn about the culture of ancient people; as we gaze up at immense abbeys and castles we marvel at mans ability to conceive of and construct such monuments.
We travel in small groups of ten with our minibus, setting out each day along the paths of history. One guide does the walking while the other one takes care of logistics - moving luggage, organising dinners, choosing wines, preparing picnic lunches which meet the walkers along the way.
In other words we take care of your every need.
Our aim is to give you a care free vacation, leaving you to absorb the beauty, enjoy the company of like minded travellers and take home memories to share and treasure.

All Caspin Journeys tours can be enjoyed by a wide variety of active people with general good health. We pace each day perfectly so that there is time for everyone to enjoy it and not feel under pressure. We encounter a variety of terrain from wide gravel paths, to narrow, rocky trails and gradients vary too. On our more strenuous tours, there are often two levels of the walk from which to choose. Some people walk at a faster pace while others like to chat or take photographs. Some people do well on the ups while others prefer the downs. You may be ahead on the trail in the morning and enjoying strolling at the back later on!

We meet you at Pisa International airport at 14.00. From there it takes us about 2.5 hrs to drive to Cortona where we will check into the farmhouse to relax and unwind. Over an apéritif, we get to know each other in the gardens of the villa. After a briefing on the week's activities, we can all sit down to a traditional home-made dinner with fresh pasta and sauce, Tuscan wine, and a delicious dessert.
