Today you head to San Gerardo de Dota and enjoy the Cerro walk. 

On your Quetzal Quest you will be looking out for the special Bird and hopefully the experienced guide will help you spot it! 

Quetzals are strikingly colored birds in the trogon family. They are found in forests, especially in humid highlands. Quetzals have iridescent green or golden-green wing coverts, back, chest and head, with a red belly.  

Today you head to the area of the Arenal Volcano.  The Arenal Volcano is an active andesitic stratovolcano in north-western Costa Rica.  The volcano was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacón. Due to the eruption, three more craters were created on the western flanks but only one of them still exists today. Arenal's eruption from 1968 to 2010 is the tenth longest duration volcanic eruption on Earth since 1750. Since 2010, Arenal has been dormant.

The Childrens Eternal Rainforest is a private land trust and reserve in Costa Rica. The 23,000-hectare (57,000 acre) preserve is run by the non-profit Monteverde Conservation League.  In 2007, it received the UNESCO Water and Peace Biosphere Reserve designation.  This reserve is neither very well-known nor too much visited; consequently, it is easier to catch sight of wild animals than in the near reserves and national parks. 

This hike is not the easiest, but definitely worth the view at the end.  Laguna de Hule is part of Bosque Alegre National Wildlife Refuge that is located in Los Ángeles Sur, Río Cuarto, in Alajuela Province. There are three lakes divided by a volcanic hill: Hule, Congo, and Bosque Alegre. Laguna de Hule is 400m AMSL, with a surface of 98.8ac (40ha) and a depth of 246.06ft (75m)- it’s the deepest lake in the country!

Locals tell the story of a river turning blue when God dipped his brush in its waters while he was painting the sky. Even though we understand the science behind it now, it doesn’t diminish its magic one bit. Rio Celeste is a river of brilliant turquoise waters that ends in a breathtaking waterfall. We ready for some great nature experiences today! 

Early one morning in July 1968, an unassuming green mountain in northern Costa Rica suddenly awoke and became the legendary Arenal Volcano. On this hike you’ll be able to get a close up of Arenal’s now ashy gray peak from many different spots. One place of particular interest is the Arenal 1968 Trail. This series of hiking trails brings you through forested areas and across some of the historic lava fields that buried much of the surrounding jungle during the dramatic eruptions of 1968.  

To finish of the day you will relax in the hot springs of Tabacon - great after all the hiking!
