The Mount Rinjani 4 Days 3 Nights Summit Trek is designed for travelers who want to experience the full beauty of the mountain without rushing the journey. With an extra day on the trail, this program allows trekkers to enjoy the landscape, rest properly, and explore the most famous highlights of Rinjani.
This itinerary is ideal for fit beginners, families, and adventure travelers who want to reach the summit while still having enough time to appreciate the natural surroundings. Compared to shorter programs, the four-day trek provides a more relaxed pace and a deeper experience of the mountain.
The trek begins in Sembalun Village, located on the eastern side of Mount Rinjani. From here, hikers walk across the wide savanna fields that dominate the lower slopes of the mountain. The open landscape offers beautiful panoramic views and a gradual climb toward the crater rim.
After reaching the Sembalun Crater Rim, trekkers can enjoy spectacular sunset views overlooking the Segara Anak Lake and the volcanic cone of Mount Barujari.
The journey then continues down into the crater toward the stunning Segara Anak Lake, where trekkers usually spend time exploring the area and relaxing in the nearby natural hot springs. The warm mineral water is a perfect place to recover after the summit climb.
From the lake, the route climbs up to the Senaru Crater Rim, one of the most scenic viewpoints on Mount Rinjani. The final day of the trek takes hikers down through dense tropical rainforest, ending in the traditional mountain village of Senaru.
Standing at 3,726 meters above sea level, Mount Rinjani is the second-highest volcano in Indonesia and one of the most spectacular trekking destinations in Southeast Asia.
The summit push usually begins in the early morning hours, allowing trekkers to reach the top in time for sunrise. From the summit, hikers are rewarded with breathtaking views across Lombok Island, and on clear days even Bali and Sumbawa can be seen in the distance.
Watching the sunrise from the summit of Rinjani is often the most memorable moment of the entire journey.
This longer trekking program allows visitors to fully enjoy the diversity of Mount Rinjani’s landscapes, including:
Wide savanna grasslands of the Sembalun route
Stunning viewpoints along the crater rim
The turquoise waters of Segara Anak Lake
Relaxing natural hot springs inside the crater

Before trekking Mount Rinjani, all hikers are strongly advised to have valid travel insurance. Trekking takes place in a remote mountain environment where weather, altitude, and rugged terrain can create certain risks. Proper insurance ensures you are protected in case of accidents or medical emergencies during your trip.
Your policy should ideally cover medical treatment, emergency rescue, and helicopter evacuation. Since Mount Rinjani reaches 3,726 meters above sea level, make sure your insurance includes high-altitude trekking coverage (above 3,500 m), as many standard travel policies do not automatically include this.
The Mount Rinjani National Park Authority now offers an optional Premium Trekking Insurance program to improve safety and emergency response for hikers.
While trekking permits already include basic insurance, the premium option provides additional protection and emergency support. It is available for both Indonesian citizens (WNI) and international visitors (WNA).
Trekking accident protection
Medical treatment related to trekking incidents
Ground evacuation and ambulance services
Emergency rescue operations
Helicopter evacuation in serious situations
This insurance helps ensure hikers receive professional assistance quickly if an emergency occurs.
IDR 290,000 per person per trip
Coverage valid from park entry until exit
Maximum coverage period: 4 days (4 × 24 hours)
The Premium Trekking Insurance is optional, but it is recommended if:
You do not have travel insurance
Your insurance does not cover trekking activities
Your policy does not include emergency evacuation
Your insurance does not cover high-altitude trekking
Because Mount Rinjani is remote and challenging, proper insurance can be extremely important during emergencies.
If you already have travel insurance that covers mountain trekking, you do not need to purchase the Premium Trekking Insurance. However, the park requires all hikers to register their insurance details before starting the trek.
You only need to provide:
Insurance provider name
Policy or certificate number
These details will be recorded together with your trekking permit registration.
