I had a wonderful time. The trip was well organized. Great people. Awesome experiences. Great cultural immersion experiences that included learning the history, music, songs, and dances. I especially appreciated that great care was taken in selecting lodging that utilized filtered water for food and drink preparation.

I had the privilege of going to Senegal with Djapo. From the initial moment of curiosity to coming back home Djapo took good care of me. All questions were addressed before travel and we had the opportunity to meet other attendees. I realized I had strep throat when I arrived and Djapo’s team took great care and helped me get medical assistance with ease and quickly. The entire trip was a deep and meaningful culture immersion. I was able to take classes, eat authentic meals, be with the families and the community of Senegal and have my own artistic expression fed.
I am deeply inspired and impacted by this trip and I look forward to next year.

Powerful experience! Profound learning and immersion in West African culture. Especially loved the chance to go into homes. I felt like an honored guest and truly experienced something special. I'll remember this trip for a lifetime.

This trip was very well organized. The mornings were devoted to dance/music, while the afternoons explored arts and culture.
I especially enjoyed Dakar, where we visited the Grande Mosque, the Renaissance monument, and of course, Goree Island.
Accommodations were top notch and our hosts were experienced and helpful. This is my third trip. I heartily recommend it for newcomers.

I recently traveled with Djapo Cultural Arts Institute to West Africa for a cultural emerging experience visiting the countries of The Gambia and Senegal. It was the trip of a lifetime! The Institute took great effort to help me prepare for the trip. I felt safe at all times, enjoyed learning about the culture of drumming and dancing, and especially visiting Goree Island and other sites. I hope to travel with Djapo Cultural Arts Institute again and easily recommend that anyone interested in an emergence experience consider travel with them!
