About this trip

Slow down. Reconnect. Be inspired.

The magic of the subtle, understated beauty of Portugal is experienced when you slow down and take it in. This inspiring retreat will be on the breathtaking Atlantic coast of Portugal, near the charming fishing village of Zambujeira do Mar, in the Alentejo region, which is far removed from the hustling tourist culture of the rest of Europe. This breathtaking coastline is known for its long stretches of pristine bluffs, sandy coves, and charming white-washed villages.

Enjoy your stay at Cocoon Portugal, a 275 acre coastal farm + retreat, offering inspiration + community for the modern traveller.  It's also pure magic, where between the oversized hammocks and the freshwater lake, you'll start to lose track of time.   The kind of place where each morning is a celebration, practicing under the canopy of old growth pines, but so is each evening, with delicious farm-to-table meals and pleasant, memorable conversation.

There are two yoga shalas at Cocoon. The pine shala is nestled under a canopy of old growth pines, and is a dream for morning mediation and practice, especially as the morning fog rolls in. The indoor shala is lightfilled, with high ceilings and traditional hand-made Santa Catarina tiles.

Each day will begin with an hour-long class devoted to meditation and mindfulness techniques at one of the two breathtaking yoga shalas at Cocoon.  After breakfast, the daily three-hour Ayurveda and yoga classes offer time to reconnect with body, mind, and spirit. Throughout the week, we’ll build progressively on Ayurvedic and yogic wisdom as well as anatomical, alignment, and energetic themes.

Each afternoon there will be ample free time. You are welcome to explore the farm, collect eggs from the chickens, swim in the pristine freshwater lake, or simply daydream in an oversized hammock.  If you are up for exploring the area, you can hop on a bicycle and ride to one of the quaint villages nearby or you are just a 10 minute drive from Praia de Malhao beach, perfect for surfing, swimming, or sunbathing. World class hiking on the famed Costa Vicentina trail is also near by.

In short, this retreat is for those seeking tranquility and a balance of practice, earthly connection, and relaxation amidst beautiful pasture, breathtaking coastal bluffs, and pristine beaches.

This retreat will allow you to unplug from your stresses and responsibilities, from electronics and newsfeeds, and remember what is really important to you. You will get the time you need for introspection so that you can reset and come home to yourself. You’ll go deeper into your yoga and mindfulness practice and learn to create new habits. You will be awe-inspired by experiencing one of the most beautiful places on earth. You’ll also be part of an open and inclusive community of fellow spiritual seekers.

I’m an Ayurvedic health counselor, yoga and meditation teacher, and neurovascular therapist living in Madison, Wisconsin. I have been in private practice and teaching since 2000. My classes and retreats integrate Ayurvedic wisdom, meditation and a mindful approach to asana that brings attention to anatomy, optimal alignment, strength, breath, and inner awareness. This practice cultivates abounding health in body and mind while inspiring you to live a more grounded and compassionate life. I offer a variety of trainings, workshops, and retreats, both locally and abroad. I have a deep love for travel, local food, and spending time with my pitbull Lucy. I look forward to working together. Gratefully, Andrea P.S. Head over to to get my full story!

John and I had a wonderful time at the yoga retreat with Andrea. She is SO inspiring! We learned so much about the general tenets underlying ayurveda, and how these are used to increase our awareness of ourselves and life around us. We are excited about using the relaxation and breathing techniques to ground ourselves in our own practice, and hope to remember the many yoga 'poses' or 'exercises' that we were shown. The evening sessions (foot and body massage and marma points) were particularly soothing. We enjoyed meeting the other yoga students, and felt that Andrea did a great job at "melding" the group. AHKi was a beautiful facility; it was very peaceful and we particularly enjoyed being able to view the ocean from the top of the mountain. The food was delicious, I particularly enjoyed the soups at lunchtime. The rooms were spacious and well-maintained. The staff paid a lot of attention to detail; for example, the food at each meal was beautifully displayed. The only suggestion I have to improve AHKi is the shower in our room. The shower control was "touchy"; it was difficult to get warm water, the water was either very hot or very cold, usually on the cold side, but we considered that a minor inconvenience. Our driver Roger was great and very personable. Thank you Andrea for an outstanding experience!
Wonderful retreat space, teacher and learning!
Thank you so much, Andrea. As always it was a wonderful weekend of rest and revitalization. I always learn so many useful self-care techniques on your retreats.
This was my first yoga retreat experience, and it was just what I was looking for. Comfortable (albeit sparse) accomdations, wonderful food, a beautiful setting and great program & agenda.
This was an amazing getaway. The location of the Christine Center is such a lovely space and you feel instantly calm and relaxed as you approach the facility. The weekend increases in serenity as Andrea begins her time with you. You can feel your body and mind connecting with nature and the calmness of Andrea's voice places you in such a special place of relaxation. I would highly recommend this adventure for every aspect of the retreat from what we practiced, to the facility and staff, the accommodations and the food that had me going for seconds almost every meal Wonderful memory!

My time at the Christine Center for Andrea's retreat was just wonderful. I came away not just feeling refreshed and centered, but with actual tools to move forward with...and so much to think about! Andrea embodies all of the things she talks about, you can see it...feel it. Her knowledge of Ayurveda, the body, nature, and how it all ties into each other, is incredible. Anyone who has the opportunity to experience learning from Andrea should make it a priority to do so!
