Operation Hailstone was a massive U.S. Navy air and surface attack 17-24 February 1944conducted as part of the American offensive drive against theImperial Japanese Navy in the Pacific Ocean Theatre.  You do NOT need to dive deeper than   100’ to experience these magnificently historic WWII wrecks. Immerse yourself and fill your mind with the   acts of war that created this now beautifully alive and colorful artificial   reef. With the wrecks being in a   lagoon, there is very little water movement thereby allowing them to stay   largely in-tact all these years.Trukofficially changed its name to   Chuuk in 1986via Compact of Free Association with the U.S. in October1986. Chuuk consists of 7 major island groups   lying within the Eastern Caroline Islands, about 617 miles SE of Guam and   3,262 miles SW of Hawaii. Air temp is always   about 81 degrees while the lagoon water stays 82-84 degrees. Getting to Trukis easy via United Airlines   routing through Guam and Honolulu. Houston   to Honolulu- about 11 hours. Honolulu   to Guam – about 7 hours. Guam to Chuuk   is about 2 hours. Tuck away $50 cash for   departure tax– unless you plan to stayindefinitely. Though Truk is part of the FSM and Guam a U.S.   territory, all travelers NEED a valid passport. Summer clothing is the “dress   code” but short shorts and mini-skirts areinappropriate. As of December 2023,   RT coach airfare from Houston is about $2600The bombing of Truk   Lagoon is the unofficial retaliatory action   for Pearl Harbor. The   M/V Odyssey accommodates up to 16 passengers in their 9 staterooms complete with   private AC controls, a window or large porthole, toilet, shower and   sink. Seven of these can accommodate 2   single travelers in twin beds or a couple in a spacious king size bed. Two staterooms are for single travelers in   a twin bed. All rooms have a 32" monitor (TV) with access to our   full onboard entertainment system. Not all wrecks (dive sites) are visited every week.   Weather, water conditions, dive skills, experience levels and guest   requests are all taken into   consideration. Since   most of the dive sites in Truk are fairly close together, it’s easy to move   the boat. The best part about diving   from the Odyssey is the “freedom” to dive when you want. It’s not unusual for   you and your buddy to be the only divers on a 500' wreck. First of all travel to and from the island was well coordinated there were no problems. The airport is pretty nice modern fairly large for a Caribbean island

the accommodations were excellen if a bit dated. I would have liked a little more light in the room and also storage space you know just the drawers or something. But everything else was great nice balcony. The people who ran the hotel friendly Efficient very accommodating. The restaurant was pretty darn good I would say and the service was good as well. There were some issues at the bar seems when things got busy we were the last ones to get served and in fact one time I waited 1/2 an hour for a drink and came away empty handed. It was a busy busy night in the restaurant

The diving was good. hi marks for the Dive shop and the Dive masters and the Boat Trips and everything else. As everybody knows the corals in rough shape. but still saw some nice sea life.

Oh and it was also really good group. Very friendly and a good vibe overall.  I got to know some folks pretty well and we hung out quite a bit either at the bar at a couple of restaurant meals. I appreciate Suzanne setting that up for us, that was nice.

Great food, accommodations, and events. This was th best trip of my life. Everything was wonderful.  A shout-out to Jay who patiently put up with me fumbling with my snorkel equipment.  Thanks for being a great guide and educator.  You made a great trip amazing.  

One of the best trips. The resort was wonderful and the people were warm and friendly. Harry's has a great group to travel with. Makes a big difference. Cindy is an enthusiastic leader. I would go again.

Cayman Brac

This was primarily a group scuba diving trip.  We all had a wonderful time.  (The missing star is for the most unwelcome cockroach that greeted me when I opened my right-side clothing closet.  I grabbed a bar of soap to smash it, but it outran me toward the ceiling and disappeared.  Fortunately, I bring eye covers so sleeping with lights on was not a problem.)

Dominica

The trip was excellent. Harry’s is a great group. I hadn’t been on a trip in quite a few years and felt welcome in the group. The diving was well planned and the dive operation was excellent. Had a really good time. Met some nice people.  So I would give the dash up five stars.

The four stars on this rating is really due to just one thing which is the service at the hotel. Restaurants was a bit slow, and it was a common complaint amongst many in the group. Otherwise, the hotel was fantastic. Everybody was nice, courteous, efficient, and responsive to whatever issue you might have. I also would say as far as Dominika is concerned, it’s definitely not a foodie paradise. We did find one really good place and I would put them up against a lot of restaurants in New Orleans. Lacou. Excellent food all local stuff. Good service nice place highly recommended. Little bar next-door was cool to call the velvet lounge. Those two places probably the best things going in town as far as I’m concerned.

Just a word about the dive operation, it was first class the boat was Fine. The dive Masters were terrific. Dive shop was good diving was good. I don’t have a lot to compare to lately so take that for what it’s worth. But all the dogs went off without a hitch. 

As far as the island itself. It’s an amazing place. It is not as developed as some of the other Caribbean islands. That’s part of the reason for the somewhat rudimentary food restaurant choices. But it’s 90% mountains and trees there’s waterfalls. They had a really nice excursion at the dive shop arranged for the Friday before the flight. People are great virtually no crime really nice.
