Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will meet with our Shiri Adventures representative, and transfer to the hotel under the rate. The hotel will provide all the essentials for a comfortable stay: cozy rooms, hot water, polite staff, a swimming pool, and Internet access. In the evening there will be a briefing with your Kilimanjaro guides, who will also make sure you are ready to begin the climb.

The trek from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut is the first stage of the Kilimanjaro climb via the Marangu Route and offers an exciting introduction to the mountain's diverse ecosystems. This relatively short hike covers a distance of about 8 kilometers (5 miles) and typically takes around 4-5 hours. The journey begins at the Marangu Gate (1,860 meters) and leads you through a lush montane rainforest that is home to a variety of flora and fauna. As you ascend, you'll pass through dense vegetation, including towering trees, moss-covered rocks, and vibrant plant life. Keep an eye out for monkeys, birds, and other wildlife that inhabit this rich environment. The trail is well-maintained, and the incline is moderate, making it a manageable first day of trekking. Upon reaching Mandara Hut (2,700 meters), you’ll be welcomed with stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the chance to relax in the comfortable hut accommodations. This first leg allows for an excellent start to your Kilimanjaro adventure, providing a smooth introduction to the climb ahead while giving your body time to acclimatize.

Begin the day with a hearty breakfast before leaving the lush montane forest behind. The trail leads you into the enchanting moorland zone, characterized by rolling hills, giant lobelias, and unique flora. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks as you ascend.
This stretch offers a moderate climb, with plenty of opportunities to appreciate the scenic beauty and acclimatize. Look out for colobus monkeys and other wildlife along the way. By late afternoon, arrive at Horombo Hut, nestled amidst the moorlands, where you'll enjoy a well-deserved meal and prepare for the next day's adventure.

Leave the moorland behind as you embark on a steady ascent toward the alpine desert. The trail becomes rockier and vegetation sparser, offering dramatic views of Kilimanjaro's majestic peaks. Pass landmarks like the Last Water Point and the Saddle, a vast, barren stretch connecting Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
This section challenges trekkers with higher altitudes and cooler temperatures. Arriving at Kibo Hut, located at the foot of Kibo Peak, you'll rest, hydrate, and enjoy an early dinner in preparation for the midnight summit attempt.

The day begins in the early hours (around midnight) with the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. The climb is steep and challenging, traversing scree and rocky terrain under the stars. Reaching Stella Point at sunrise is a rewarding experience, with awe-inspiring views of the crater and beyond. A short, determined push takes you to Uhuru Peak, where you'll celebrate your accomplishment with unforgettable photo opportunities.
After soaking in the moment, start the descent to Kibo Hut for a brief rest and a hot meal. The descent continues to Horombo Hut, where you’ll spend the night, reflecting on your incredible achievement.

Begin your final descent through the lush montane forest as you leave the moorland zone behind. The trail is relatively easy, allowing you to take in the diverse flora and occasional sightings of wildlife. Pass by Mandara Hut for a brief rest before continuing to Marangu Gate.
At the gate, you’ll sign out, receive your summit certificate, and celebrate your successful journey. Those who reached Uhuru Peak will receive a gold certificate, while those who reached Gilman’s Point will be awarded a silver certificate.
From here, transport will be arranged back to your hotel for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
