THE INVITATION
You already know how to hold it all together. You do it every day, beautifully, gracefully, without letting anyone see the cost. You have learned to carry more than most people would dare to pick up and somehow you still show up. You still deliver. You still smile.
But your body knows the truth. There is a breath you have been waiting to take. A long, full, bone-deep exhale that can only come after you have been truly held.
This is your invitation to The Exhale.
WHAT IS THE EXHALE?
The Exhale is built on a simple and radical truth: you cannot release what you have not first fully felt. The deepest exhale only comes after the biggest inhale. This is not a retreat where you are asked to rest before you have earned it. This is a retreat where you take on more, on purpose, with intention, inside a container of complete care, so that the release that follows can reach the places that have been locked up for years.
You will sit in a sauna longer than feels comfortable. You will plunge into cold water before you are ready. You will breathe deeper than you thought possible. You will move your body through two hours of energetic practice that asks everything of you. You will use your voice out loud, in a circle of women, and you will be heard. And then, on the other side of all of that, you will feel an exhale so complete it will bring you to your knees. The discomfort is never without the cushion underneath it. Every edge is held. Every moment of intensity is followed by complete and deliberate care.
That is the work. And you are so ready for it.
THE SETTING: WHERE THE LAND HOLDS WHAT YOU'VE BEEN CARRYING
South Shore Resort and Retreats has been holding people on the shores of Twin Lake in western Michigan since 1909. There is something in the bones of this place, in the old wood and the lake light and the fire pits that have seen a hundred summers, that knows how to hold a woman who is ready to let go. The beds are the kind you sink into and do not want to leave. The food is farm to table and genuinely nourishing, the kind of meals that taste like someone made them with love because someone did. The property is unhurried and beautiful and designed for exactly this: the long exhale of a body that has finally been given permission to rest.
You will wake to the sound of water. You will walk barefoot to the lake's edge in the morning stillness. You will sit in a barrel sauna until your skin hums and then plunge into the cold lake and gasp and laugh and feel more alive than you have in years. You will eat at long tables with women who were strangers on Thursday and feel like family by Sunday. You will lie on your back in the grass under an expanse of stars so vast it makes your problems feel appropriately small and your dreams feel appropriately enormous.
This is off the noise of ordinary life and deep into the kind of beauty that reminds you who you actually are.
WHO THIS IS FOR
The Exhale is for the woman who is exceptional at her life and exhausted by it in equal measure. She is capable and she knows it. She is also carrying more than any one person was designed to hold and she has been doing it so long she has forgotten there is another way. She is not broken. She does not need to be fixed. She needs to be met, fully and without apology, in the truth of how much she has been holding. And then she needs to exhale.
This retreat is for you if you are ready to feel more before you feel less. If you are willing to be uncomfortable in order to be changed. If you want to walk away on Sunday morning bright in your body, refilled with light, and clearer about what is possible when you are no longer dragging the weight of everything you were never meant to carry alone.
THIS RETREAT IS NOT FOR YOU IF
You are looking for a spa weekend where surface comfort is the goal.
You are not willing to be physically or emotionally challenged
You want to stay in the safe shallows of your own story
You are not open to being seen
YOUR EXPERIENCE: A RHYTHM OF EDGES AND EASE
Each day moves through its own natural arc, intensity and softness woven together so that every edge is followed by something that holds you completely. This is what a sample day at The Exhale looks like:
Morning
Wake naturally to lake light and the sound of water, coffee and tea waiting. Gentle movement, meditation, or simply sitting at the shore with both hands around a warm mug, your body chooses. Nourishing brunch served family style at the long table, prompt cards at the center
Integration time, journal, walk the property, float, or simply be without agenda.
Midday
Ceremonial breathwork and Kriya practice or guided silent forest bathing, walking together through the trees without words. Open lake time, kayaks, paddleboards, the hot tub, a nap in a patch of afternoon sun.
Evening
Farm to table dinner by candlelight, the conversation goes deeper every night. The fire circle under an open sky, honest prompts, real voices, stars so vast your problems find their right size. Or the lighted trails at Muskegon, walking through the dark together, lighter than you arrived. Sacred sleep in a bed so comfortable you will wonder why you ever sleep anywhere else.
