Over six days, you’ll move from a volcanic crater lagoon to the Pacific surf coast, cross Lake Nicaragua to a twin-volcano island, and finish in colourful colonial cities and laid-back beach towns. It’s raw, diverse, and endlessly rewarding — a road trip that shows you the real Nicaragua, one drive at a time.
Drive your own Tuk-Tuk, 500km across Nicaragua in a team of 2 or 3 people.
9 nights, 7 driving days and 1 rest day
Training on day 1 before you take the Tuk-Tuk on the road.
Your journey begins in the tranquil surrounds of Laguna de Apoyo, a volcanic crater lake tucked between jungle-covered hills. Settle in at Paradiso and then head to meet your support team to learn how to drive your Tuk-Tuk. Expect a friendly briefing, practical driving time, and plenty of laughs as you get to know your three-wheeled companion.
Leave the cool, green highlands behind as you drive toward Nicaragua’s rugged Pacific coast. The road opens up to beach landscapes and wide skies as you arrive in Popoyo, a laid-back surf town known for its powerful waves, relaxed energy, and unforgettable sunsets. The afternoon is yours — stroll the beach, watch surfers from the sand, or enjoy a cold drink as the day fades.
This morning takes you south toward Lake Nicaragua, where you’ll board the ferry to Ometepe Island — a place unlike anywhere else in the country. Formed by two towering volcanoes, the island feels slower, greener, and deeply connected to nature. Once ashore, explore quiet roads, small villages, and volcanic landscapes before settling in for a peaceful night surrounded by the impressive Lake Cocibolca (Nicaragua)
📍 Hotel San Juan - Ometepe Island
Ometepe is a magical Island featuring two imense Volcanos; Maderas and Concepción. You can spend the day exploring the Island, visit local swimming spots, head to the beach (lake beach) or even plan one of the many hikes that are on offer. If you’re looking for a hiking challenge, You have found it. It's 16 km of steep climb – but it is deffinitely all worth it for the views and the sense of achievement at the peak. How many people can say they hiked to the top of an active volcano?
Checkpoint: Ometepe
Enjoy a final island morning before crossing back to the mainland. From here, follow the coastal roads to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua’s most vibrant beach town. Think crescent-shaped bays, clifftop viewpoints, lively cafés, and golden-hour light. Whether you spend the afternoon relaxing by the sea or exploring nearby beaches, the coastal energy is unmistakable.
Today’s drive takes you north toward Granada, one of Central America’s most beautiful colonial cities. Arrive to colourful streets, historic architecture, and a lively cultural scene. Wander the old town, enjoy rooftop views over Lake Nicaragua and the Isletas or unwind in shaded courtyards as the city hums around you.
Your journey may be coming to an end, but the memories — and dust — will stay with you a little longer.
Take the morning to relax or explore more of the city of Granada and it's surroundings. Whether you're flying home, continuing across Nicaragua or venturing further into Central America, we’re here to help coordinate any onward plans.

Tuk-Tuks are unique vehicles that require careful handling and maintenance. While our team works tirelessly to ensure the safety and reliability of our fleet, it´s important to note that Tuk-Tuks are delicate machines that can experience mechanical issues or breakdowns due to improper handling or poor road conditions.
We take great pride in providing our customers with an authentic and adventurous travel experience, and part of that experience is accepting the risks and challenges that come with driving a Tuk-Tuk.
In the event that a Tuk-Tuk does experience mechanical issues we have mechanics on hand and, depending on the nature of the breakdown, it may be the responsibility of the driver to repair the vehicle at their own expense.
We understand that this may be an inconvenience, but we believe it is a fair price to pay for the thrill and excitement of Tuk-Tuk travel.
So, if you´re ready to embark on a one-of-a-kind adventure, just remember to drive carefully, follow our safety guidelines, and embrace the challenges that come with this unique mode of transportation. After all, it´s all part of the adventure!
