One of the largest and most amazing volcano landscapes is found on Isabela Island – it even looks like a seahorse! It is settled by six large shield volcanoes fused into one island (Ecuador, Wolf, Darwin, Alcedo, Sierra Negra (active!) and Cerro Azul). Each of them is populated with different species of tortoise. Its highest point is located at Wolf Volcano (1,707 m; 5,600 ft). Short trekking, from your hotel, allows you to discover giant tortoises, pink flamingos lagoons, frigate birds, blue footed boobies, tropical birds and sea lions. It is easy to explore Tintoreras islets home of blue white tipped sharks and Galapagos penguins; Los Tuneles (tunnels) perfect place to snorkel with golden rays; and Turtle Island, unique place to enjoy watching birds and swimming next to hammerheads.
Early in the morning, you will be pick up at the hotel at 07:15 am, then from Puerto Villamil Pier sail ahead Turtle Island. The turtle-shaped wonder is an oldest and collapsed volcano island, located east south of Isabela Island, 1.5 miles away. Riding a comfortable speed boat for approximately 30 minutes you will discover from the boat nesting variety of seabirds such as common frigatebirds and the elusive red-billed tropicbird, blue-footed boobies, tiny penguins, including sea lions resting over the rocky cliffs. So, your camera has to be ready in order to shoot unique memories. Then, it is perfect time to enjoy practicing snorkeling with hammerheads, manta rays, school of yellow tail surgeon fishes, schools of eagle rays, green marine turtles. Turtle island snorkel day tour is recommended for all intermediate to advanced snorkelers. If the time works for you, the tour guide is happy to take you to explore the Tintoreras islets, home of penguins and blue white tipped sharks. A tasty lunch will be enjoyed aboard.
It is recommended to wear a wetsuit in order to neutralize the sea temperature, because it falls below 20ºC from June to November and it is up to 27ºC from December to May.
