Organic olive oil farm lunch and wine tasting
Tuscany is known for many things but three of its most iconic products are without doubt its wine, pasta and olive oil. Today you will sample all three!

On this idyllic day of our private Tuscany tour you will meet two families at the heart of Tuscan life and both great friends of Alma Italia. The Davaz family, at their award winning family run Chianti Classico vineyard and the first, the Calamai family will be at one of the most historic and prestigious olive groves in all of Tuscany. Run by the same family for 200 years from their Renaissance villa high on a hill overlooking Florence, reportedly the birthplace of the mother of the Mona Lisa, it is a unique place.

Your trip host will pick you up from Florence at 11.30am to escort you into the beautiful olive groves hidden in the hills surrounding Florence to the estate of the Calamai family have produced olives here on the first hills outside Florence for more than 200 years.

Your hosts will recount to you some of the fascinating history of the family and the villa while you try some of the freshly pressed oil. After a look around the farm and villa, and perhaps even an encounter with 'Baffo' the goat, Eleonora, ‘la Mamma’ and expert Tuscan cook, will prepare a simple Tuscan lunch for you including freshly made pasta.

Lunch will be in the garden of the villa or in the 'cantina' depending on the weather. What could be a more satisfying way to spend a lazy afternoon than feasting on the fruit of your labours enjoyed with a sprinkling of 0 km’s fresh oil and a bottle of local wine that we picked from the neighbouring vineyard.

The afternoon doesn't end here however. After lunch we will move further south, deeper in to the heart of Chianti, the most famous Tuscany wine making region.

Here we will meet the Davaz family, the passionate owners of an organic Chianti classico vineyard. Now run by the second and third generation, the family originally hailing from neighbouring Switzerland, runs the vineyard with Swiss precision and Italian soul. You will be able to sample at least four of their beautifully crafted wines and take a tour of their cleverly designed cellar, hidden in the hill of the vineyard.

This is the Tuscan countryside at its most glorious. If you are lucky you might even see some deer or wild boar roaming through the vines.

After the tasting we will make the 45 minute drive to our traditional Tuscan inn hotel for the evening 10 minutes walking distance outside of San Gimignano where we will make restaurant reservations for you in the evening

Exploring Chianti
In the morning take the short stroll in to San Gimignano to enjoy the atmosphere of this medieval country town.

Tiny San Gimignano is known locally as the 'little New York' because of its ancient towers that look like medieval mini skyscrapers. Full of charming boutiques and one of the best ice cream stores or 'gelateria' in Tuscany, it makes for a relaxing morning.

After working up an appetite we will visit another family run organic award winning vineyard on the outskirts of San Gimignano where we will have a tasting accompanied by lunch.

In the afternoon you will have the choice. Either we can take you to Siena, to explore this other great city of Tuscany or we can move on to another vineyard...the choice is yours!

In the later afternoon we will make the journey by car towards the Tuscan Coast where you will be based for the next two nights in the Bolgheri wine region - the most exciting new region of Tuscan wine production where they first invented the 'Super Tuscans'. It also happens to be one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany where the rolling hills meets the mediterranean sea.

We’ll go directly to a beautiful vineyard situated on a hill overlooking the west coast of Tuscany where you will stay in their new apartments fo the next two nights.

Bolgheri and the Super Tuscans
After breakfast enjoy a stroll and a coffee in the little hilltop village of Castegnato Carducci overlooking the ocean on the horizon.

Then we can take you down for a stroll on the beach and lunch at a famous fish restaurant right on the beach, of if you prefer meat, we can go in to the village of Bolgheri itself. (To be confirmed in advance!)

After lunch we will visit on of the most loved by locals vineyards in the Bolgheri region where you will taste the newest blends of Tuscan wine, often more appreciated by an international audience than traditional Chianti Classico.

In the late afternoon we will return to your home on the vineyard for a tasting - you can't stay on a vineyard and not taste their wines after all!

Here a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and indigenous Tuscan grapes create a uniquely Italian accent on these grapes more often associated with France.

After a tour of the cellar and a stroll through the vines, of course, sampling the different blends, we can head You can watch the sun set into the ocean before dining at our favorite authentic Tuscan restaurant in the village.

Return to Florence
This morning we will head home to Florence after breakfast. on the way we will be sure to drive you down the famous 'Viale di Cipressi' the iconic road that defines Bolgheri lined with Tuscan Cypress trees for that last instagram moment!

Alessio arranged a wonderful itinerary for us in Siena! We were at the end of our trip to Italy and we wanted to spend some time in the Tuscan Countryside. We contacted Alessio who we had arranged a trip with in 2020 before Covid hit and we never got to go. He very kindly honoured our deposit from then and arranged our trip to Siena. From the private driver pick up at the Florence train station to the wine tasting trip to Castello Verrazzano, the private walking tour of Siena and of course the quiet, peaceful boutique hotel, it was all wonderful! The private car to the Florence airport was a lovely finish to our trip. We would highly recommend Alessio and his company for a well planned, hassle free trip to Italy.

We had a wonderful time! The trip was very well planned, the transportation was terrific, and the places we stayed were outstanding! This could not have been a better trip!
