About this trip

Uganda, or the ‘Pearl of Africa’, as it was famously dubbed by Winston Churchill, is characterized by relatively dry and flat savanna in the north, with verdant mountains in the West, and vast dense and remarkably lush forests in the central region. The nation is home to an astonishingly diverse range of African wildlife including the highly endangered mountain gorilla which can be found in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. A popular spot for wildlife watching is Queen Elizabeth National Park, which hosts four of the Big Five, a flock of flamboyant flamingos and the rare tree-climbing lions of Ishasha. Outdoor enthusiasts can get their adrenaline fix with plenty of whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking, quad biking and horse riding facilities on offer. Add to this some friendly locals, a burgeoning cultural scene, and a capital city full of lively bars, clubs and restaurants, and it is easy to see why Uganda has gained itself a reputation as 'Africa's friendliest country'.

The massive 6.5 million-hectare Lake Victoria is three times the size of Wales and is shared by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Known as one of Africa’s ‘Great Lakes’, it is world-renowned as both Africa’s largest lake and the source of its biggest river, the Nile. Its waters are rich in fish life with shimmering shoals of colorful cichlids and large Nile Perch which is sought after by fishermen. Visitors can look forward to a variety of activities including excellent fishing; wildlife viewing; and savoring local dishes at restaurants with a phenomenal lake view. Visitors can look forward to spotting wildebeest, crocodiles, elephants, buffalos and chimpanzees along the banks. Gorgeous islands such as Ssese, Bulago and Entebbe beckon to be explored.

Itinerary

August 31
Arrive Uganda

Meet and greet at Entebbe International Airport where your Uganda Adventure Safari starts by our representative who will warmly welcome you and facilitate seamless arrival formalities. Your will then be transferred to your hotel where you will be briefed about your adventure safari.

Time permitting you will take a short city tour of Kampala.
Kampala Uganda’s capital Kampala was built on a collection of hills and was the political center of the kingdom of Buganda. Its name comes from a corruption of the term ‘hills of the impala’, a reference to the species of antelope that was once found here in abundance. It was expanded by British settlers following the ratification of a treaty between the traditional king, or Kabaka of Buganda and the colonialist and explorer Frederick Lugard, and developed into a trading center from which animal produce such as skins and ivory were sent to Mombasa along a newly constructed railway. Kampala has few sights as such, but as a busy and bustling city provides a good insight into contemporary urban Africa. It has a great selection of restaurants, bars and clubs and has a fairly hectic and enjoyable nightlife. It’s worth making a trip to the Kasubi tombs, the burial places of former traditional rulers of Buganda which are still maintained by female relatives of the deceased today, where one can see royal artefacts from days gone by.
