Really enjoyed the workshop with my long time kumu. Enjoyed all the ladies that were there. Great experience with my new hula sisters! Lunch everyday was excellent and a couple of the dinners that we were treated to. Loved learning to make lei po'o and ti leaf leis (2 different kinds). It was very well planned out and loved the teaching and all the activities. We didn't sleep there, but I noticed that the bedroom area was very nice and welcoming, also nice to have two bathrooms available. We had to stay off site in two different hotels (Paradise Bay Resort and Courtyard by Marriot next to the Polynesian Cultural Center) as we were too late for a private room, but since there wasn't air conditioning at the retreat center, it was a better choice for my husband, Jan. It was quite a bit more money doing it that way, but I understood as Hawai'i is mostly fans and slatted windows to let the air in. It was very hot dancing for several hours. I would have preferred ac for dancing. We were surprised at the high cost of renting a car for a week ($1500.00 at Hertz). We used Hawaiian Airlines, which is our favorite. We were able to get two seats together in the comfort seat area (You get 6 inches more of space). All and all it was a wonderful time, and I'm so glad we did it. I would have missed a lot of important teaching by my kumu if I had stayed home and just bought the materials from her.
