About this trip

"Banares is a magnificent city, rising from the western bank of the River Ganges, where the river takes a broad crescent sweep toward the north. There is little in the world to compare with the splendor of Banares, seen from the river at dawn....." Diana Eck

Varanasi is one of the oldest living cities of the world compared to Jerusalem and Athens you are stepping into ancient land. All the sages, Yogis and masters of the world have come to Varanasi including Buddha, Shankara, Krishnamacharya to learn, teach and pray. It is believed to be one of the holiest cities on the planet and by many considered to be the center of the earth as the pace of creation but sit above the earth as a crossing place between this world and the divine.

This was a trip of a life time and for an extremely affordable cost. We visited so many temples and even participated in rituals which probably wouldn't have happened on a regular tour. It was a very special experience. Our days were very full and enriching. It was life changing!
Wow! where do I start? This was my first trip to India, a destination that had always been on my bucket list. I had met Maria Garre at a local yoga studio via a weekend workshop about Ayurveda. So when this retreat popped up on my radar I knew I could not pass it up. This is exactly the India experience I was looking for, and was not disappointed. I traveled on my own, felt safe the entire time, and I met such a great group of ladies. Each day started with meditation on the Ganga followed by yoga in the studio located right in the hotel. Then each afternoon included some sort of excursion- visiting temples, hiking, shopping where the locals shop, white water rafting, or indulging in Ayurvedic spa treatments. The 10 days are well planned - and each excursion is optional- but I took advantage of each one! If you are looking to experience India and all of its wonderful chaos, (and sacred cows) I would highly recommend this trip. It felt like walking through the pages of a National Geographic magazine. Namaste Maria for an amazing experiance - one I will never forget, and Ganesh willing, get to repeat!

Thank you for making the old new again, every time. While I could travel alone, it’s better with you & the exceptional people you bring together. I highly recommend Nivana Palace, Sagar Tours & Sacred India Retreats for keeping us all at ease. Grateful the retreats are sacred & fun. Tip: never forego a chance to jump in the Ganga. It could change your life.
