About this trip

We bring people together to enjoy Dance, Yoga, Zumba, Meditation & more in a relaxing setting nestled between the tropical jungle and the pristine sandy beach of Chacala, Mexico.  This is a very intimate place that offers a relaxing, supportive, and inspiring environment in a peaceful fishing village.

Whether you love to dance or not,  you practice yoga or not, know how to meditate or not, this retreat will be an unforgettable experience.  We have been organizing these retreats since 2014; our groups are very diverse, from young adults to older adults, families with children, or singles.

All physical conditions & fitness levels are welcome.

FYI - Some of us, have purchased flights from OAK to PVR on June 8th, arriving at 4pm at PVR.

About Chacala, Mexico:

A small Mexican fishing village with plenty of charm that still retains a traditional way of life. It has easy access to Puerto Vallarta International Airport, just 90 minutes south, yet feels worlds apart from the big tourist developments. The town and surrounding areas have much to offer: from jungle hikes, surfing, boating and ancient petroglyphs, to the simple pleasure of playing on the soft sand and swimming in the year-round warm ocean waters.

Chacala is the most pristine and picturesque bay in the Riviera Nayarit, with golden sand, coconut trees, and palapa (thatched-roof) restaurants along the shore, surrounded by tropical jungle mountainsides. Home to approximately 400 residents, the town’s unhurried lifestyle is complemented by the welcoming and friendly attitude of locals.

Why are we going to Mar de Jade in 2019?

Please take a moment to learn about their history to better understand why we're going to Chacala on our 6th year.

In 1982, Mar de Jade’s founder, Dr. Laura del Valle, moved from Mexico City to Chacala- a small and remote fishing village on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.

Dr. Laura began offering free medical care to local families and soon set up a non-profit clinic in the larger nearby farming town of Las Varas. Over the 25 years she operated the clinic, it provided free services to over 14,000 families.

Mar de Jade grew slowly, organically, over many years; welcoming an increasing number of meditation and yoga retreats, vacationing families and volunteers. The spirit of service, spiritual awakening and cultivation of genuine friendships has been the driving force in the evolution of Mar de Jade.

A portion of proceeds from guests’ stays at Mar de Jade support its non-profit programs, operated by MDJ Community Projects, which currently include: El Jardín, a Montessori – Waldorf inspired K – 6 school in Chacala; La Aldea, a trade school for youth who have dropped out of secondary school because of economic hardship; and El Rancho, an Organic Farm that supplies many of the products for Mar de Jade’s delicious meals.

We love to travel, and create a community that supports each other. We love to relax and dance, we love to eat healthy and drink wine . We love to swim, meditate, practice yoga; experience the places we visit in an adventurous way. When we travel, we respect people around us and we take care of each other. We've done this since 2013 and we plan to continue organizing these unforgettable vacations for you...leaving our footprints (huellas)! Our groups are very diverse; from teenagers that take our classes in the Bay Area to seniors that are retired. We're a very welcoming group of respectful people that appreciate and celebrate each other.

I had a lovely time.. Peru's sights are breathtaking and the experience was unforgettable. The group was lively and well organized. Andreina and the local hosts worked very hard to address any issues encountered and were very gracious facilitating the activities of each day, keeping us informed and handling everyday minutia. The tour flowed smoothly and it shows they worked very meticulously to provide a special experience, pleasant stays, unique culinary opportunities and informational tours. The hotels we stayed at were comfortable and pleasant. We got presents, treats, surprises and even a special treat to a 7 course delightful lunch that blew my mind off. From the food sampled, to the settings, to the exquisite attentions given to us by the hosts and vendors I had a lovely time. I'm very happy and grateful for such a special experience.
Andreina is an amazing trip leader. Our group had such a special time together in Peru. I usually travel alone but was drawn to Peru and this trip and I do not regret it! Andreina has an amazing way of bringing people together. This trip was well-organized, packed with fun/inspiration and truly unforgettable. Thank you!!
