I created Wild World Tours so I could make travel more accessible to more of you. It's important to me to lead you to new, special corners of the world alongside local guides. I'm Maria, your guide to the world. I’ve been to over 45 countries, many as a solo female traveler and as a group trip host for work, which started this idea and passion. I’m excited to show you more of the beautiful places in the world I’ve fallen in love with! So far we've led group trips to Cuba, Thailand, and Oaxaca, Mexico.

Day of the Dead has always been a bucket list experience for me, so when I saw that Maria (a trusted and well-traveled creator) was organizing a group tour, I booked immediately. I even invited some retired family members, and it ended up being perfect for all of us. One of the best parts was how effortless it felt. We could simply show up and enjoy, without stressing about planning, transportation, or logistics. The tour was thoughtfully designed to be inclusive for all ages and activity levels, which made it so enjoyable for our group. Whether we were visiting well-known attractions or discovering hidden, off-the-beaten-path spots, everything was covered. Maria partnered with a fantastic local guide, and together they made sure we could get around easily (even with a language barrier), checked in regularly, and always made us feel safe and supported. We got to try new foods, explore authentic areas, and truly experience Mexico (not just the version you get at an all-inclusive resort). There was also a great balance of structure and freedom: you could enjoy free time, explore on your own, or spend time with the group. I can’t imagine how much work goes into planning such a meaningful, immersive experience for a large group, and I genuinely appreciate all the care and organization that went into it. It was unforgettable, and I’m so grateful I got to cross this off my bucket list with my family and new friends in such an amazing way!

I had such a great time! I got to experience so many different things and our local guide taught us so much while also making it fun. He cared about our wellbeing too throughout the time and was always so helpful when we had questions. Maria was also amazing and made it so memorable by making sure everyone was having a good time, was taking care of themselves and even taking photographs (ones you usually miss if you solo travel or even with friends/family!). The only part that was less than ideal was some of the people on the group trip that just seemed miserable with anything we did. I think they just didn’t pick the best trip for them and their interests. However, Maria always tried to make them feel included, tried to make them happy with whatever we were doing and supported others decisions to get some distance. Group trips can be tiring and difficult but Maria and our local guide made it a great experience!

It was the worse group trip I’ve ever been on. It should be for 20-35 year olds. The highlights should have been the Oaxaca parade which was not a part of our tour and the cemetery visit which was a money maker tourist trap that was unsafe and extremely disrespectful. For how inexpensive Mexico is the trip was overpriced. We also stayed a bit farther out than need be to enjoy the city.

Hi Mary Alice, thank you for your feedback. I’m truly sorry to hear that the experience didn’t meet your expectations, especially since you shared with me in person that the main issue seemed to be not feeling personally connected to Mexico/liking it as a country. I worked diligently with my team on this itinerary to bring Oaxacan traditions to life for travelers, and despite age gaps I believe there was a lot of amazing connections that formed in our group and with Oaxaca as a city that will create lasting memories for everyone that had an open heart. I love Mexico and am determined to share it with more travelers, so it hurts to see a negative review as a small, growing business. Still, I want to address your concerns openly and clarify a few things for anyone considering this tour or Wild World Tours as a provider. About the Parade & Cemetery Visit:
Our local Oaxacan guide ensures that all activities respect cultural traditions. The downtown parades are not official, ticketed, or guaranteed events and some happen spontaneously. We were able to watch it during our free time, but they’re not always predictable enough to include formally. Día de Muertos is a sacred time, and we always follow the lead of residents, and they welcomed us into the cemeteries to witness how they celebrate their loved ones. About the Hotel Location:
We chose our hotel based on safety, value, and availability during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. Staying closer to the historic center during Día de Muertos would have significantly increased the cost (by hundreds of dollars per person). It was a great compromise from what the other travelers said, and the walk was a very small trade-off to have a quiet and secure entire property to share between our group with made-to-order breakfasts each morning and clean, comfortable rooms for everyone. About Pricing:
Día de Muertos is Oaxaca’s highest demand season, and costs rise significantly across the entire region. Our tour price reflected fair high season rates and also ensured that Gabo, our local guide was compensated equally for his work during the busiest week of their year. As you were aware when you purchased the tour, the cost included expert local guidance in English, transportation, cultural experiences, group meals, our mezcal tour and tasting, our sugar skull face painting and photoshoot, and personalized support before, during, and after the tour. We always welcome constructive feedback and continuously improve our itineraries based on guest experiences. Many others on this tour expressed that they had a wonderful and meaningful trip. Wishing you the best in your future adventures.
