About this trip

Blessed with an open, welcoming, and engaging society, Vietnam is a nation balanced between deeply held traditions and an exploding modernity that make it a uniquely wonderful travel destination. The war is a distant memory and Americans are now appreciated as partners in economic opportunity. Vietnam is more about experience than checklists. Being paddled on a river by a rower who uses her feet, taking a cooking class, having a dress or suit tailor-made in a day, relaxing in a hammock in the Mekong Delta, or drifting quietly along on a subterranean river – these are the activities you’ll cherish from this outing. There are, of course, great sights to be enjoyed, including the Temple of Literature, Halong Bay, the ruins of My Son, and Hue’s Citadel. Add in the best food in Southeast Asia and you have a formula for travel memories to last a lifetime.

We at Imprint Tours believe travel broadens horizons, introduces new ways to see the world, equips us with a new frame of reference for evaluating our own society, breaks down prejudice, and promotes global understanding. Therefore, we endeavor to “Travel with Intent”: an intention to take a reflective, introspective approach; connect with the cultures we visit; and balance the enjoyment of discovery with responsible travel. We want our “imprint” on the planet to be light and our “imprint” on the local culture to be positive.

Overall we enjoyed tour, especially the Peruvian people and our local guides. Below we'll outline the positives and opportunities for improvement. Dianna, our local guide for the entire trip was well prepared, knowledgeable, helpful in solving day-to-day problems and a very good communicator. Our 2 guides with Amazon Expeditions were truly outstanding. The Posada Amazonas were great accommodations and the staff was very helpful. Opportunity: wish we knew more details about the hotel and shoes because it was unclear before arrival how to get around the hotel and property (this is where a 2nd pair of shoes choice was important. Urubamba, the Sacred Valley and the day trip to a local family farm was good. We really liked the family farm, learning about the local food, work and culture. Opportunity: it seems like there's an opportunity lessen the amount of driving back and forth between these locations... we were getting a little tired of the bus drives. Machu Picchu was clearly outstanding in every way. However, the pre-trip communication details on hiking trail availability, tickets, etc. was confusing and it felt like Imprint had not understood and /or prepared far enough in advance in providing us choices. Cusco was disappointing. The city was far bigger and busier than we anticipated. I don't believe we took full advantage of the local sites due to poor and/or no communication from Imprint. Our biggest concern during the entire trip were three things. First, too many people in the group either arrived sick or became sick at the beginning of the tour. What's important is that each illness seems very different. Said differently, the illnesses were not simply a case of Montezuma's Revenge. I think there was an opportunity to outline some group guidelines earlier and often to prevent the spread of illness. Second, too many people in the group simply were not physically prepared for this type of tour. As such, we lowered ourselves to the lowest common denominator in everything we did. I don't know how you address this but it's extremely disappointing for grown adults to sign up for a tour that clearly involves walking, climbing, etc. and they seems totally unprepared. Third, we didn't feel the Imprint guide prepared and approached this tour in a professional manner. Nothing turns us off more than the tour guide establishing a divided culture from the onset. A clique of prior Imprint tour alum was established early and reinforced often. It was made clear by several alums that concerns, questions or criticism was unwanted. This was then reinforced by the Imprint tour leader. This was unprofessional and should have never been allowed to start and fester during the entire trip.

The Patagonia tour was fabulous! This was my first group tour experience, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was a pleasure to get to know Reid over the 2 weeks. My travel companions were delightful. Patagonia was absolutely breathtaking. The itinerary was well thought out to offer a variety of experiences. I opted to do the iguazu pre-tour extension as well- worth every penny! Can’t wait to travel with Imprint again!
