About this trip

Elise Davis-McFarland invites you to join her in Vietnam for a journey beyond compare. Engage in meaningful interaction and collaboration with speech-language pathology and audiology professionals to focus on the greatest challenges faced in the provision of services as well as other topics of interest. As you journey across the country, you'll develop an understanding of issues related to providing culturally appropriate, sustainable, collaborative, community-based rehabilitation services. You'll establish connections with speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists while interacting with healthcare and higher education professionals. Visit with staff at a local school in Hanoi to learn about access to SLP therapies in a school setting. Giving back and engaging with the community face to face is an important part of your journey, meet with NGO leaders at Operation Smile. Cultural highlights on this journey include an exploration of Hanoi including visits to Ba Dinh SquareHo Chi Minh Museum, One Pillar Pagoda, Thang Long Royal Citadel, attend a Vietnamese cultural show: Lang Toi My Village. In Ho Chi Minh City visit the Chu Chi Tunnels, explore cultural sites such as Opera House, City Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral and Reunification Palace. Explore the floating markets on the Mekong Delta and spend time in family homes where you’ll be invited to enjoy some refreshing, freshly cut coconuts and fiery Mekong whisky.

An Optional pre program extension will be offered to Halong Bay.

Depart for Vietnam

Depart on your way to Hanoi, Vietnam (transit stop expected and will vary depending on airline). The stunning beauty and friendly people alone are worth a visit! Vietnam's capital city has a complex personality and impressions of the city can vary depending on a person’s location within it. Like other large Asian cities, busy commercial streets are filled with cars and bicycles and are edged by shops, restaurants, bars and stalls.
