Discounts

It’s important to book this Danube cruise earlier than most tours and cruises for two reasons:

1. The riverboat only has 95 staterooms and so a tiny fraction of a typical ocean cruise holding 3000-6000 people. Some categories have just a few staterooms before selling out.

2. Because we apply all current special offers from Viking River Cruises: “Two For One”, Reduced Air Fare, etc. These discount offers from Viking typically expire or the discount may be reduced at the end of each month. This urgency could save you hundreds of dollars if you act now.

Arrive this morning in Passau, at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz, and Danube Rivers. Your guided walk along the town’s narrow streets takes you through Old Town and past traditional patrician houses. Inside, you are treated to a special concert played on the 17,000-pipe organ, considered Europe’s largest church organ.† Enjoy lunch onboard your ship and return to the city for further exploration on your own before departing. Alternately, you may instead journey into the countryside on an optional excursion to a local farm where you will have the opportunity to join a festive Bavarian party, experiencing traditional German music and food and tasting locally brewed beer. After breakfast, meet your local guide for a walking tour through the scenic town of Regensburg, considered one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities. See one of the largest groupings of 13th- and 14th-century church spires, towers, and patrician houses north of the Alps. You also encounter the 12th-century Old Stone Bridge, St. Peter’s Cathedral, and several idyllic courtyards. Take time to stroll the streets, shop, or visit Germany’s oldest restaurant, the Alte Würstküche. Lunch is served onboard your ship.

This afternoon you can take an optional excursion to visit Weltenburg Abbey and experience a short cruise through a stunning mountain pass, one of the most breathtakingly scenic bends in the Danube Narrows. Travel by road to Kelheim and board a ferryboat to explore the Danube Narrows' 400-foot chalk cliffs and dramatic scenery. Visit Weltenburg Abbey*, renowned for the dark ale brewed here by monks since 1050, rejoin your ship in Kelheim in time for dinner. Or, you may choose a full-day optional excursion to see the highlights of the grand city of Munich.

Alternately, you can join an optional Nuremberg World War II tour. Visit Zeppelin Field on foot, see Congress Hall, and spend time at the illuminating Documentation Center Museum. After breakfast, disembark and proceed to the Munich airport for our same-day, non-stop flight home. Our chartered coach returns to Central Illinois, humming a waltz of the Romantic Danube.

Or extend* your stay for three nights and experience magical Prague in the Czech Republic, the “City of a Hundred Spires.” Your Viking River motor coach takes you to Prague this morning after disembarkation. After free time for lunch, check into the hotel, the First-Class Corinthia Hotel Prague (or similar).

The extension package includes transportation, hotel, sightseeing, breakfasts with free time to explore.

The rest of the day is free to explore on your own and sample some of the hearty local cuisine. For example, tour Hradcany Castle, visit the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral and stroll along the Charles Bridge. Stevie Jay & Janet welcome us aboard our private motorcoach to Chicago O’Hare. He hires skycaps to help with luggage for check-in for our flight to Budapest.

We had a great time! Travel was super easy with our bus to and from the airport, check-ins at the airport and into each hotel. It was great to have days perfectly planned with a great list of activities. We really enjoyed our travel guide in San Francisco - he was so knowledgeable and did a great job showing us around. Our LA guide was OK but I think it was hard to see much of interest as LA seems so spread out. We also wanted to provide a special 'shout out' to our bus driver (Ruben w/Via) for the week. Ruben was fantastic!! Would definitely go again!

The trip was good except for the flight which is normal and the bus back from Ohara but understand this will be corrected and gift available for future trips. But I also must mention the dinner on the last night there. Dinner was a long way from hotel and the time we it took us plus and the time we returned just did not make any since, since several in our group had to get up to catch their plane home early in the morning. It would have made much more since to have this dinner the night prior and the last dinner could have been held in the hotel or a walking distance from the hotel and much earlier. This should be looked at on any of your future trips

I enjoyed the accommodations, the tour of Provence, small towns, the guide, Gerard, the luxurious bus and wonderfully competent driver, Alessandro. The experience were exuberant, cooking class, truffle hunting and tasting, the boat ride. I enjoyed the people and camaraderie.
