About this trip
The Marañón River is one of the most unique river journeys on the planet. Isolated riverside villages, cascading waterfalls, natural swimming holes, ancient rock art, ruins, along with flora and fauna not found anywhere else on the planet. Our tour through the Grand Canyon of South America will leave you wanting more.
This is a custom itinerary for filming episode of Visionaries.
16th
Arrive in Jaen. Take Van to Lonya. Hotel in Lonya.
17th
Enter river, camp in red canyon.
18th
Take of 4pm. Stay in Jaen this evening.
19thFly back to Lima

Season
The main season for this raft tour is June to October, where weather is warm, sunny and water levels are perfect, trips are also offered in the shoulder season in May and November.
It is possible to travel between November-May, however water levels can be extremely high, and weather less predicatable (storms to be expected). For this reason, trips in highwater season are only open to participants who are strong swimmers and experienced in the outdoors and not afraid of a true adventure.

A lifetime experience. Amazing trip with unvaluable crew paddling strong through the heart of the Marañon!!!
You must live the experience to understand how grateful I am with Luigi and Vera for sharing their passion for rivers and purpose protecting the Marañon as a free flowing river (I reckon no need for large hydro dams anymore). Down the river you get friendly whitewater up to class 4 rapids you definetely would like to scout. Actually, whitewater not so white by december (aprox 400 m3/s / 17,000 ft/s), so adrenaline levels definetely rised up during this trip....Heads up, with this flow you must paddle hard to stay away from some walls, still you'll have enough time to make a sweet clean line.
Besides whitewater, the experience provides many highlights: beautiful beaches for camp sites, clear skies, delicious foods and drinks (I really really mean it), recently discovered ruins and cavern paintings, friendly villages (saved from dam flooding) and limitless biodiversity for investigation & research (endemisms zone).

Got way more out of this trip than expected. Rapids were pretty mellow (170 m3/s in August) and the weather was perfect, but it was the cultural experiences that made this trip special. Luigi and Vera were awesome guides and cooks and were loved by all locals. They really made this trip an incredible experience. Thanks guys. I hope we get to boat (or Mtn bike) together again someday!
