Enjoy a walking tour with your tour leader along the Mall, ending at the Jefferson Memorial, a presidential memorial dedicated to Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), one of the most important of the American Founding Fathers. Enjoy lunch at the Wharf, then a tour of the U.S. Capitol. Time permitting, visit one of the many museums on the Mall. B

Today, head out for a walking tour from the White House to Ford’s Theater. Hear about how on April 14, 1865, the President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was assassinated. Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd, exactly five days after the end of the Civil War, were watching a comedy show called “Our American Cousin” from the presidential box, when a famous actor of that time, John Wilkes Booth, entered and shot Lincoln in the head. After Ford’s Theater, enjoy lunch in Chinatown before seeing the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution in the National Archives. You’ll then have some free time to explore more museums. Meet back at the peaceful Sculpture Garden. B

Enjoy an excursion to Mt. Vernon, the plantation house of George Washington, the first President of the United States, and his wife, Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. The estate is situated on the banks of the Potomac River. Enjoy some lunch and a walking tour of Old Town Alexandria before catching the bus to Arlington National Cemetery. Tour the United States military cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., in whose 624 acres the dead of the nation’s conflicts have been buried, beginning with the Civil War, as well as reinterred dead from earlier wars. Join a shuttle tour to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington House and JFK’s grave site. Return to the city. B

Enjoy an excursion to Gettysburg today. Along the way, your tour leader will narrate the details of this devastating battle that took place over 3 days from July  1-3, 1863. Learn about this hallowed ground where nearly one-third of the total forces engaged at Gettysburg became casualties. George Gordon Meade’s Army of the Potomac lost 28 percent of the men involved; Robert 

E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia suffered over 37 percent. Of these casualties, 7,058 were fatalities, another 33,264 had been wounded and 10,790 were missing. Hear about the details of the battles at famous Little Round Top, Devil’s Den and the Angle. After lunch, continue your educational journey to Fort McHenry in Baltimore. Learn about the valiant defense of the fort during the Battle of Baltimore on September 13-14, 1814 that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the words that became the U.S. national anthem. Enjoy a crab dinner like the locals followed by a walk around the inner harbor.  B
