About this trip

Wazza will be walking, kayaking and cycling from Ballina Sawtell to every Woolworths store as far north as Beenleigh. It will take him 10 weeks, 3 to 4 days per week,  to do this, while still woking full time.

Funds raised will of course go to Asthma Australia.

He would be grateful for any help he receives by way of assistance in:

• transporting himself, his kayak and his bike to and from section start and finishing points.

• securing sponsorship.

Specific events for both the Gold Coast Mid Week Walking Group and the Gold Coast Midweek Paddling group will be held on most days and you are welcome to participate in these (eg Cabarita to Kingscliff Paddle, Kingscliff to Fingal Walk)

Warwick would also appreciate the company of group members, new members or Woolies team members along the way

Please feel free to join Gold Coast Midweek Walking and / Paddling Meetup groups kif you would like to participate.

Even ocean-going yachts can cruise from the ocean ports of Yamba and Iluka up to the city of Grafton, although taller masts might require the lift span on the Harwood Bridge (on the Pacific Highway) to be raised. The annual Bridge to Bridge from Harwood to Grafton is considered a ‘must attend’ event for ski racers.

Sugarcane fields, rainforest and historic port towns line this river of plenty, where you can dine on local subtropical produce and gorge on the best prawns in the country.

The river rises on the eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range, in the Border Ranges west of Bonalbo, near Rivertree at the junction of Koreelah Creek and Maryland River, on the watershed that marks the border between New South Wales and Queensland. The river flows generally south, south east and north east, joined by twenty-four tributaries including the Tooloom Creek and the Mann, Nymboida, Cataract, Orara, Coldstream, Timbarra, and Esk rivers. The river reaches its mouth at its confluence with the Coral Sea in the South Pacific Ocean, between Iluka and Yamba; descending 256 metres (840 ft) over the course of its 394 kilometres (245 mi) length.[4]

On its journey it passes through the towns of Tabulam and Copmanhurst, the city of Grafton, and the towns of Ulmarra, and Maclean. The river features many large river islands, including Woodford, Chatsworth, Ashby, Warregah and Harwood islands; and Susan Island Nature Reserve. The river supports a large prawn trawling and fishing industry.

The Clarence River system is an extensive east coast drainage with many tributaries of differing size. Apart from the Murray River, it is the largest river in mainland Australia south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
