The report explains that health and well-being are distinct but complementary concepts. Health is based on physical, emotional, and social parameters, while well-being encompasses broader dimensions including the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, and occupational. Both form an integrated vision in which body, mind, and environment are closely interconnected.
Wellness and Health Tourism emerges as a response to factors such as stress, population aging, and the growing need to improve quality of life. This type of tourism includes destinations in natural environments, physical activities, spas and thermal centers, healthy nutrition, mindfulness, specialized retreats, and various self-care programs.
Multiple actors participate in the sector: accommodation establishments, spa and wellness centers, health professionals, fitness and yoga instructors, nutritionists, tour operators, marketing agencies, and public authorities.
Transportation—including aviation, cruises, and land transport—has also adapted to offer wellness-oriented services.
Finally, the report highlights several current trends, including personalized experiences, sustainable wellness, digital offerings, and the increasing focus on mental health as an essential component of overall well-being.
