Beautiful location, very serene. Food was all plant-based with excellent presentation and was spectacularly delicious! Easy access to the lagoon and the waters were warm and swimmable. They navigated my peanut allergy well. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The massage therapist, Magdeline (sp?) was phenomenal! Had several full and half hammocks in which to relax. Felt safe at the facility and in nearby areas (we went jogging in the area and never felt unsafe except maybe from a few wild dogs but they didn’t seem poised to attack). Transportation to/from the airport and excursions was reliable and safe; good signage at the airport when we arrived. They had plenty of bottled water jugs on tap. They kept bananas out for snacking.
Drawbacks were low water pressure in sinks and showers, and there was no A/C. Fans were acceptable to keep things from being sweltering in my room, but other people didn’t have the number of windows that I had, so it was hotter for them. These things were more of a nuisance than a problem for me, and I chalked it up to being in a developing country I didn’t necessarily need to have all the creature comforts that I’m used to.
My feet (and my wife’s feet) got swollen for the first time in my life; thinking the amount of salt in the food was too high (which may be why it tasted so good! I can’t speak highly enough about how delicious the food was and how well it was presented!). We probably needed to drink more water to combat the salt intake, but that being said, I’ve been in tropical climates with the similar water intake and didn’t have swollen feet.
All in all, I had a great time there with the crew that I went with. If I stayed in the rooms that had the better window access again, I would absolutely come back.
Staff on property was great, very attentive and gracious. The food was average in my opinion. Others in the group enjoyed it, but I am used to much higher quality and inventive dishes. The property was in a nice location, but could use some updating. It has a rustic feel and maybe that is what they are going for, but trying to sleep in the room I was booked in was near impossible. There are no windows and too many bugs at night to be able to open up the door. There is a fan in the room, but it is not adequate to eliveate the stifeling feeling in the room. I am from a similar climate, but still struggled to get more than 3 hours of sleep a night. When the power goes out and you have no fan, you cannot even breathe. My door would not close and I was never able to lock my room. As a single woman traveling solo, I felt very unsafe staying in a room that I was not able to secure. I almost left and went home after the 2nd night. The only reason I stayed was due to the actual event organizers and the group of people that I was building nice friendships with. I would not return to this property or recommend it to anyone.
Food was fantastic & employees were fantastic, however could get any sleep cause of the heat in the room… a lot of flys, a couple of blackouts … I thought for the price it was too much to pay!!
