About this trip

Do you want to go on a dive trip where you can focus on your photography? No chasing guides or being constrained by the boat's time limits? Join Blue Planet for a long weekend of lazy diving on Florida’s Palm Beach and Singer Island! With 2 shore dives a day plus options for boat and blackwater dives, it's a photographer's dream. (And yes, non-photographers are more than welcome too!)

West Palm Beach Diving

Macro: In addition to great reef and wreck diving, this area is home to the famous Blue Heron Bridge, one of our favorite shore dives. This shallow dive site reveals a surprisingly diverse world of macro diving — watch for octopus, frogfish, seahorses, tons of juvenile fish and more. You can spend up to 2 hours in 20 feet of water on each dive, mastering your macro shots. The dives are tide dependent so expect to be on a strict schedule with downtime in between shore dives.

Blackwater: Our friends at Pura Vida Divers also offer Blackwater drift dives where you can witness the massive migration of animals coming from the depths to the surface to feed at night. See breathtaking bioluminescent creatures, jellies, squid, and the larvae stages of many reef creatures. We'll do at least one of these dives while we're there!

Wide angle: And if you want a break from the small stuff, put on your wide angle lens for a 2-tank boat dive to explore the area's reefs and wrecks. You'll see hawksbill and loggerhead turtles, several species of sharks, morays and more. PLUS it's the start of Goliath Grouper spawning season so we'll see these massive fish starting to congregate.

Minimum dive certification/experience

Bridge dives: Given the shallow depth, these dives are suitable for Open Water Divers and beyond. However it is essential you practice good buoyancy techniques to so as not to disturb the sensitive habitats we're visiting. We strongly recommend that you have taken the Peak Performance Buoyancy class prior to diving the Bridge, or we can do it at the beginning of the trip.

Boat dives: As these dives routinely reach depths of greater than 60 feet, Advanced Open Water Certification is required at a minimum. Enriched Air/Nitrox also strongly recommended.

Blackwater dives: You will need an Advanced Open Water Diver or Night Diver certification plus you should be comfortable hovering in open water without a visual reference -- at night.

We’ll be staying at the Hilton Singer Island, right on the beach and a quick drive to the marina and the Blue Heron Bridge. Each room comes with 2 queen beds, a desk, TV, mini-fridge, coffeemaker and more. There’s also free WiFi, fitness center, beach access and outdoor pool. Free parking included.

Fly into the West Palm Beach airport (PBI) on Wednesday, August 4th. Rent a car if you'd like to explore on your own, or we can coordinate shared rentals. Hotel check-in is at 4:00 PM. You can fly back on Sunday, August 8th — just be sure you give yourself 18-24 hours after your last dive!

Please check in with Blue Planet staff before booking flights. If you need assistance with flights, just let us know!

Blue Planet is a different kind of scuba diving organization — aimed at providing the best education and experiences to divers in the Washington, DC area and beyond, while harnessing the excitement and adventure of scuba diving to help protect our fragile oceans.

Blue Planet executed a wonderful trip. We travelled with Jeff and Anthony, who were excellent teachers and fun, kind people besides; stayed at Hotel Phocea and dove with Phocea dive shop, which were also great. Instruction was taken seriously and and difficulties people had were addressed promptly and compassionately. Can't wait to dive with Blue Planet again!

Amazing diving albeit chilly at times as expected. Guides knew exactly where to go and were extremely adept at spotting wildlife. Service was wonderful and organization was impeccable. Definitely a successful bucket-list dive trip. We’d highly recommend it to any keen and experienced divers.

An absolutely amazing archipelago like no other in the world, both top side and under water. Words and pictures will never do justice to this incredible bucket list destination. Heather and Jonas were fantastic leaders; caring, knowldegeable, always up beat, always thinking ahead, always putting the guests priorities ahead of their own...could not ask for more. Aggressor personnel were top notch. Overall an incredible experience from A to Z.

We are so happy you enjoyed the trip, David! On top of all of the incredible marine life we were able to see, it was fantastic to learn more about the islands' volcanic origins from you. We feel incredibly lucky that you joined us! :-) We can't wait to dive with you again!

This is my third Blue Planet trip, and I look forward to many more. Traveling during Covid involves changing restrictions and requirements- Blue Planet kept us updated and helped us manage our anxiety. The resort and dive operator were incredible. This is a regular feature of Blue Planet trips.
By Andy M for St Lucia! February 2021 on 01 Mar, 2021
Thank you, Andy! We're thrilled you enjoyed the trip despite the challenges getting there. We can't wait until our next trip together!!

COVID-safe responsible travel is now possible and quite enjoyable! Blue Planet guided us through the enhanced testing, paperwork, and travel restrictions that protect both travelers and hosts, allowing us to support island communities and dive spectacular reefs. I have been reluctant to travel since March 2020 but as we all enter the “new normal” of covid and economic recovery, I am pleased to experience and highly recommend *responsible travel done safely* with Blue Planet.
By Heidi K for St Lucia! February 2021 on 22 Feb, 2021
We are so happy you could join us, Heidi! We are thrilled that everyone felt safe and enjoyed the trip. We're looking forward to many more dive adventures with you in the future!
