Working alongside a qualified wildlife vet, you’ll gain insight into real-world conservation medicine while contributing to the daily care of rescued wildlife.

Choose between a 7-day intensive wildlife veterinary experience focused entirely on sanctuary-based wildlife care, or a 14-day wildlife and domestic veterinary experience that combines wildlife medicine with community veterinary outreach and additional field experiences.

Across both options, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in practical veterinary work, observe real cases, learn through expert-led teaching and experience life within a working wildlife sanctuary.

Depending on the programme selected, activities may include health checks, patient monitoring, diagnostics, sample analysis, rescue procedures and lectures covering topics such as parasitology, haematology, pharmacology, rehabilitation and remote capture techniques.

Designed for those who want an immersive wildlife veterinary experience without committing to a longer programme, this one-week option places you within Malawi’s primary wildlife rescue sanctuary and clinic.

Work alongside a qualified wildlife vet and become part of the daily veterinary routine, gaining exposure to real cases and the practical realities of caring for rescued wildlife.

The two-week programme builds on the wildlife veterinary experience with an additional week of domestic animal outreach and community-based veterinary work. It offers a broader perspective on how veterinary medicine can support both wildlife conservation and the communities living alongside it.

Alongside your work at the wildlife sanctuary and clinic, you’ll join LSCPA’s community clinics and gain insight into veterinary care in rural communities.

• Assist with spay/neuter surgeries, livestock care and rural veterinary support

• Gain additional hands-on experience through extended case exposure and practical training

Who Can Join

• 7 Day: Vet students of any year level

• 14 Day: Vet students that are in their clinical years (have completed 2 years at the time of joining the mission)

Note: To join the project, you are required to provide;

• Proof of rabies vaccination

• A copy of the TB test result taken within 12 months before arrival

• Copy of travel insurance with medical evacuation

• Proof of malaria prophylaxis
