About this trip

Savour the finest wines and landscapes of northern Spain, from the capital through Castile and Rioja to the Basque coast in San Sebastián. Spain brings with it the beauty of the high altitude clarity of Old Castile, with its magnificent castles, mountains and squares. Savour the wonderful reds of Ribera del Duero, the vibrant whites of Rueda, via some magnificent castles, mountains and town squares. Regional gastronomic specialities like jamón, suckling pig and lamb match the heavier reds of the region while Rioja marks the transition to the north in style of wines and dishes, through patatas con chorizo, local peppers and tomatoes accompanied by more delicate reds and aged whites.

The Basque coast offers a stark and very visually striking contrast, Txakoli white wine with local tuna and anchovies introducing us to the distinct gourmet feel of green Spain by the Cantabrian sea. The world’s best ham is never far away and the mixture of ancient and modern architecture, winemaking and culture makes for a heady mix.

Costs and Payments

Payments Policy

Each tour has a deposit of $750 per person which is payable at booking. The balance of payment is due 90 days prior to the start of the tour.

WeTravel Payments

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new booking system, powered by the WeTravel platform. Our primary goal is to enhance your booking experience, making it simpler and more convenient, especially when it comes to payment via credit card.WeTravel is a highly respected booking and payments platform for group travel businesses, trusted by over 5,000 companies worldwide. We couldn't be happier to partner with them, knowing that they provide instant payment acceptance, efficient booking management, and global fund transfers.
Booking your next adventure with us is now smoother than ever. Tours will continue to be listed on our website as before. When you click ‘book now’ on the tour page you will transition to the new WeTravel booking page for that tour where you can select the package and options that you wish to book.

We highly recommend creating an account during the signup process. This enables you to track the status of your bookings and make any necessary changes whenever you need to. Rest assured, WeTravel respects your privacy and won't inundate you with marketing emails.

Payment Methods  Once you've completed the familiar booking form, you can proceed to make secure online payments, currently available in 2 different ways:

  1. credit card (which incurs a processing fee that varies according to the currency and location you are paying in, up to 2.9%)
  2. bank debit transfer. Bank debit transfers occur when an account holder authorises an outside party to “pull” funds from their bank account. The recipient’s bank initiates the transfer of funds, not the sender’s bank. When a customer sets up this type of bank transfer to make a payment, they provide their name and account details to the recipient, who will then use the account information to pull funds from the sender’s account into their own. This is different from bank/ wire transfer where instead of the recipient’s account “pulling” money from the sender’s account, credit transfers work by “pushing” money from the sender’s bank account to the recipient’s.

If you prefer alternative payment methods such as cheques or Wise wire transfer, we're happy to accommodate these arrangements on request.

Non USA Payments

Most of our tours are listed in US dollars but if you want to pay in your local currency by the bank debit method then it is as easy as selecting the flag of your country’s currency on the top right of the window when you are making payment. Alternatively, you can request our $US account details to make a wire transfer from outside the USA.

2nd Participant Payments

A booking will only show under the account of the person who made the booking, not the second participant. There are 2 options for payment in this case -

  1. You can pay together and handle the participant's payment outside of WeTravel.
  2. You can share the login and each make payments with your preferred payment method.

Timings

The payment timing will stay the same, with a deposit of $750 pp payable at booking and the balance payable by 90 days before the tour starts. You will receive an automated reminder 30 days before the balance is due.We believe this new system will streamline your booking experience. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].

Cancellation Policy

If you wish to cancel your booking, you need to confirm the cancellation in writing by email or letter. If you contact Iberian Wine Tours prior to confirming your cancellation we can advise you of the cancellation charges applicable to your situation. The wines, food, company and accommodations were all wonderful! We highly recommend this itinerary for anyone who is interested in the wines of Northern Spain and Portugal. Our guides, Jeremy and Simon, planned a fabulous trip. Thank you both for a great introduction to this beautiful region.

Once again, our travels with Jeremy and Simon were exciting and delightful. Wine and food were highlighted of course, and the settings were perfect. Each venue, paired with unique accommodations and fascinating wine presentations gave us a comprehensive overview of the significant wine areas of northeastern Spain and Portugal. It’s alway fun to try different menus and regional dishes, and I have really loved the cooking classes we have participated in along the way. Many of our group became more familiar with octopus than we probably had been previously!! Our vineyard and winery visits seem to blend together in a slide show of remarkable wines and winemakers. As longtime “wine tourists”, Dan and I might enjoy a couple fewer tours through the wine vats and vinification processes. Of course, many of the vintners really stood out, and the passion they brought to their tastings made their wines fun to share. Staying in the old Paradores was a step back through the centuries. We were enthralled with the monumental surroundings and fine hospitality. Thank You, Muchas Gracias, Obrigado! Pam and Dan Munzer

This "once in a lifetime extravagance" became a life changing, inspiring, and moving journey that will shape our marriage, work, and adventure endeavors forever. It is really not a "wine tour," it is a gourmet wine experience. Nearly every place we went was an invitation only intimate adventure. World renowned vintners spent full days sharing their history, family, motivations, innovations, and more. Repeatedly grandmas prepared two hour, multi-course authentically local gourmet lunches in their stunning homes. We dined at numerous Michelin restaurants entranced by the taste of food so beautiful it should be hung in an art museum. We travelled by trains, buses, and boats and befriended incredible people. We enjoyed cliffs, ocean beaches, rivers, and endless vistas. Each night was spent in such stunning and luxurious rooms I could have been happy being locked up each day just to soak in the view and comfort. All of this is possible because the Iberian Wine Tours team has poured out their hearts, minds, and passions into building unique and powerful relationships and then shared them with me. I am so so so fortunate.

We had a great trip with with a good bunch of people. The hotel choices were all excellent as were the wine visits, lunches and evening meals. The leisurely lunches were particularly great with wonderful wine. Vineyard and winery visits were well judged no matter what your level of wine expertise - there was something for everyone and having the wine producers to speak to was a bonus over standard commercial visits which can often be off a script. And we had a great bus driver too. Jeremy and Simon were wonderful hosts looking after everyone well and without fuss and both having excellent knowledge of the regions covered. Not an inexpensive trip by any means but great value for money with what was provided for us. Looking forward to our next trip with Iberian Wine Tours.

My friend along with our husbands were looking for a food and wine tour through Portugal and Spain and we serendipitously happened upon Iberian Wine Tours. We read the great reviews and decided to commit. The trip was incredible from day one- Jeremy and Simon have forged strong relationships with wine makers around the region. We were able to glimpse into their world, tasting their wines and eating at their local establishments. Every visit to a wine maker was a unique experience. We ate at Michelin rated restaurants, and in quintas . Many of the places we ate at were truly farm to table. The beef , pork, vegetables all came from the farm. We were given many singular and invitation only experiences that couldn’t have happened without Jeremy’s and Simon’s relationships with the food and wine communities. In addition, Mario is a handsome competent driver, the places we stayed were truly 5 star and very unique and the other travel companions warm, knowledgeable and kind. This was a spectacular experience. Cant say enough about it!
