Want to go hill walking in winter? Aspen is running a series of Winter NAvigation Training Days in February and March 2024. Choose from the following dates:

• 18 February 2024 
• 25 February 2024 
• 3 March 2024

The winter navigation course covers:

• Navigation in poor visibility (e.g. white out conditions, spindrift, night time)
• Contour interpretation, being able to relate contour features to landscape features
• Use of compass to accurately follow a bearing
• Planning safe routes in the mountain landscape that avoid winter hazards
• Gauging distance using pacing and timing
• Relocation skills, using linear features and aspect of slope.
• Navigation strategy: the use of attack points, aiming off, and catching features to improve.
