Winter Walking in Slovenia 2027 is a scenic winter adventure through one of Europe’s most enchanting alpine destinations. Discover snow-dusted landscapes, charming mountain villages, and spectacular views of Slovenia’s lakes, forests, and peaks while enjoying guided walks at a relaxed pace. Combining outdoor exploration with local culture, cozy accommodations, and hearty regional cuisine, this holiday offers the perfect balance of activity, comfort, and winter magic.

This holiday is designed for active travellers who enjoy spending time outdoors during the winter months. No technical hiking or mountaineering experience is required, but participants should have a moderate level of fitness and be comfortable walking for several hours each day on uneven terrain, including snow-covered trails.

The itinerary includes a mixture of winter walks, snowshoeing, sightseeing and cultural visits. Daily walking distances, pace and timings may vary depending on snow conditions, weather and the group's ability.

Meet the guide at the airport in the morning and start the day with a transfer to the alpine region.

First stop at picture-postcard Bled Lake, located at the foothills of the Julian Alps. With its' castle and island is one of Slovenia's main attractions. 

If time permits we will drive further into the valley and explore Lake Bohinj. Sitting in a quiet corner of a dead-end valley, the silent beauty of Lake Bohinj hits you smack in the face when you first arrive. It is located within the Triglav National Park therefore the construction around the lake has been held to a minimum.

End you day in Kranjska Gora.

Depending on the snow conditions, we will select an appropriate hike that takes us towards the highest Slovenian peaks or into one of the beautiful valleys. On the way, we’ll stop at world-renowned Planica—the cradle of ski jumping—and Zelenci, a beautiful nature reserve where our longest river is born.

Wherever we go, you’ll be surrounded by the steep limestone walls and stunning jagged peaks of the Julian Alps. Before it gets dark, we will visit the (hopefully) frozen Peričnik waterfall.

If you are interested, you can also try curling or take a cross-country skiing lesson.

Get ready for the hike into the heart of the Julian Alps. 

A short transfer will take you just across the border to Italy. The goal for today is to reach a cozy, wooden mountain hut hearty mountain welcome with traditional cuisine.

On the walk you will enjoy a pristine alpine landscape. The path winds through dense forests of fir and beech, interspersed with rocky outcrops and lush meadows.

 If possible we can sled down the from the hut.  

After saying goodbye to Kranjska Gora drive to the amazing Kamnik-Savinja Alps where we take a cable car to Velika Planina, which means "the big meadow". This is a true winter fairy tale and we will walk with snow shoes through shepherd's settlement.

In the afternoon drive to Ljubljana for a nice evening in the capital city.

In the morning do an easy and pleasant walk though the parks and hills around Ljubljana. Our expert city guide will take us on a wonderful tour through the old town, you'll get to know local stories and sights, visit the castle overlooking Ljubljana and have some free time to explore the shops and bars.

Afternoon in the Škocjan Caves

After lunch explore one of the most unique places and biggest natural treasures in Slovenia: Škocjan caves – Unesco World Heritage Site. On a 2-hour long walking tour with a guide you will walk through this intricate cave system with numerous dripstones and other underground limestone formations. The incredible size of the cave, the underground river canyon, and the daring trails which were built by the first explorers are simply mind-blowing. This marvellous display of Mother Nature’s awesome power is spectacular.
