Our Intermediate Chile kayak trips combine world-class instruction with exciting Class II–III+ whitewater in a student-focused environment. Whether you’re refining your skills or exploring new rivers, you’ll be guided by top industry professionals dedicated to your progression and safety.
With more than 15 class II to III+ river sections, the rivers in the Pucon area guarantee proper features to challenge and progress your kayaking. Team Buena Onda instructors are trained to benefit your river running with skills such as control kayak on ferries, improve combat rolls, pierce and catch eddies. By the time you leave your kayaking and confidence will improve.
It is our goal to give you foundational kayak tools so you continue to improve all year. Your Trancura riverside base is as good as kayaking gets, with development rapids both upstream and downstream and rivers in every direction. There is even a clean ten foot waterfall for the thrill seekers. It’s whitewater heaven, and you get to kayak multiple times daily.

Note: The itinerary adapts to group skill level, river flows, and weather conditions to ensure the best learning and paddling experience.
Guests arrive at Temuco Airport (ZCO) and transfer to Pucon Kayak Retreat on the Rio Trancura. After settling in, participants meet instructors Haley McKee and Mita Coker for gear outfitting and trip orientation. The afternoon includes a warm-up paddle on the Middle Trancura River, ideal for refreshing fundamental skills and getting comfortable on Chilean whitewater. Evening welcome dinner and retreat introductions.
The Liucura River offers a perfect environment for developing Class II–III skills such as ferrying, eddy turns, and boat control. Instructors provide student-focused coaching while paddlers gain confidence in dynamic river features. After the paddle, enjoy a relaxed visit into Pucon town for local exploration and ice cream before returning to the riverside retreat.
Today’s run on the Lower Trancura introduces exciting wave trains and technical features perfect for intermediate progression. Guides support participants with river reading, line selection, and confidence building in bigger whitewater. Return to the retreat in the afternoon for recovery time, hot tub relaxation, and a shared dinner overlooking the river.
Travel south to paddle the spectacular Rio San Pedro, known for its turquoise water and scenic canyon landscapes. The group enjoys a full day of guided paddling before continuing to the mountain village of Choshuenco for an overnight stay near the base of the volcano.
Start the morning with a lap on the beautiful Lower Fuy River, a favorite among visiting paddlers. After the run, the group visits Termas Geométricas, Chile’s most famous hot springs. Designed by architect Germán del Sol, striking red boardwalks wind through a Patagonian canyon connecting more than twenty natural thermal pools—one of the most memorable highlights of the week. Return to Pucon in the evening.
Take a break from paddling to explore the region’s volcanic landscapes. The group hikes and swims in the stunning Turbio canyon area, followed by a relaxed wine tasting experience before dinner back at the retreat.
Based on group skill progression and river conditions, instructors select the perfect local river section for a final day of paddling and skill consolidation. In the evening, celebrate the week with a traditional Chilean Asado barbecue, riverside gathering, and hot tub session.
For early risers, enjoy an optional final paddle on a nearby river section before breakfast. Guests then transfer to Temuco Airport for departure, leaving with new skills, lasting friendships, and unforgettable memories of kayaking in Chile.
