The oldest Maya Site was discovered in the late 1800s. Xunantunich is located just a few miles away from the border with Guatemala. This site provides the visitor with a comprehensive look at the Mayans’ advanced civilization; in particular their mathematical and astronomical intelligence. You get a picturesque view of two neighboring towns of different countries from on top of El Castillo, the tallest temple, standing at 135 ft from the plaza floor.
