About this trip

This yoga retreat combines yoga with adventurous activities in a beautiful location that includes sun, water, and wildlife. In addition to daily yoga for all levels, we will paddleboard, snorkel, hike, and experience the beauty around us.  This retreat will be located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Not only will we dive into a deeper yoga practice with Kristen Addicks, we also will get to explore the spiritual side of the authentic Hawaiian culture with Mimi Towle, who was born and raised on the island and provides travel experiences for others professionally.

Join us for five days of yoga and adventure on the Big Island of Hawaii, which is known for its transformative healing powers.  We will stay in lively Waikoloa, one of the most popular vacation destinations on the island. We have rented two condos with options to share a room or have your own.  This location will allow you to walk to shopping or beaches whenever you like between organized activities. We also are inspired to help this community get back on its feet after last year’s volcanic eruption and hurricane which took a toll on the tourism but not the aloha spirit or beauty.

Come on your own or bring a buddy to enjoy world-famous weather during the very best season. Immerse into the warm waters for snorkeling, paddleboarding, probably even swimming with dolphins and manta rays.  We will visit an important historical site to the native Hawaiians and hear cultural talks from a longtime local. These experiences are rare on yoga retreats, but we want to share the authentic island with you.  We will take you to a nearby spa for some pampering as well. All activities are optional, so you can join in, or if you prefer, simply relax by the pool, on the beach, or floating in the ocean.

Flow with Kristen Addicks while enjoying the sights and sounds of the islands: birds singing, wind rustling the trees, and gentle waves rolling up onto the shore.  Daily yoga classes will be suitable for all levels and include yoga philosophy, breath work, challenging flows, restorative poses, assists, chanting, and meditation. Kristen will provide modifications for beginning yogis and opportunities for advanced practitioners to grow their practice. Each yoga class will ensure you are ready, rejuvenated, and recovered for the next activity.

Enjoy the tropical healing waters. We will visit a bay considered one of the top snorkeling spots on the planet, often filled with dolphins. We will bring paddle boards/kayaks and snorkeling gear, hoping for a chance to swim with these elegant and playful creatures. We may have the chance to see other marine wildlife like manta rays. Mimi will introduce us to her favorite Hawaiian activity, “swogging,” at the world famous Kaunaoa Bay.

We will stay in Waikoloa Village, a conveniently located community that has all the ingredients for a comfortable stay.

Yoga means “union.” To me, that signifies connecting us to all living things, and to that which is bigger than ourselves. That is why, on my retreats, we will get out in nature — the value of having sand in our toes and immersing ourselves in the ocean are an important component of the overall experience. On this adventure, we will look at things from a new perspective: swimming with creatures that live under water and hearing about the ancient Hawaiians. Most yoga classes will be outside in the warm breeze with the smell of tropical plants and sound of birds . We will will link poses gracefully with clear instructions and modifications. We will challenge ourselves occasionally and restore generously. The classes will build both strength and flexibility in a balanced way and I will sprinkle in wisdom from the ancient yoga texts.
