About this trip

In this workshop we will look at our energy body and what energy channels (‘meridians’) are; how Yin Yoga affects our energy body and our organs; and how we can enhance the flow of Chi and our wellbeing with this practice, as well as with the use of essential oils.

Yin Yoga strongly affects the flow of Chi (Life Force) in your body as a whole, and in your organs specifically, thus enhancing your health and well-being. Yin Yoga poses can also affect specific emotions, allowing you to regain balance in the way you feel and interact with the world around you. When you gain more understanding of the energetic effects of this practice, you will be able to gear it towards the needs and abilities of your being in order to get the most benefit.

Essential Oils have been used for their healing properties since the old times. They have potent attributes on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. The different chemical components of the flowers, plants and trees that have been distilled into oils have a powerful effect on our brain. Scents can help us remember events from the past, and may assist in clearing negative thought forms. Using essential oils in our yoga practice, and while stimulating acupressure points, can enhance the effects thereof, and deepen our experience significantly. It is not necessary to have essential oils at home to take this workshop.

  •  how to use essentials oils on acupressure points.

Marije Paternotte was born and raised in Amsterdam where, after her training to be a professional ballet dancer, she studied law and worked as a corporate lawyer. A yoga retreat in Bali led her to the United States where she took her first yoga teacher training. She currently lives in a small beach town in New Jersey with her husband, and teaches yoga workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings around the world. Marije is a guest teacher at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts and the Mandali Retreat Center in Italy.


Excellent retreat. The site is beautiful with wonderful food. Marije is a great meditation guide. Can't wait to be there again.

What a life changer this weekend was- Marije is a phenomenal guide in both meditation and yoga, as a means to reconnect with yourself, the world around you, and what you want and need. By the end of the time, I was present, and participating with an eye toward my own joy - and even in this short time, was able to lift heavy burdens of judgement / criticism in my practice.

I followed the Elements workshop from Marije and I loved it. With her great knowledge she explained the first part of the workshop all about de 5 elements. How they connect to each other and how to notice an imbalance and how to balance the element. During the second part we did a lot of exercises related to each of the elements to balance them. Here nice way of speaking and explaining made this workshop soo much of an treat to me. She inspired me to be more aware of the elements during the day and really listen to my body what’s it telling me. Nice tools to balance my body. I really recommend this 5 element workshop.

I met Marije a year ago on a Yoga-retreat, she made me fall in love with Yin Yoga. Five months later I joined her 75-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand. A 10-day-training in which I learned the practice of Yin Yoga, pranayama, mindfulness meditation and a whole lot more. I also learned a lot about myself, which was also very interesting. The way Marije teaches a class, a retreat or a training is really amazing: with calmness, fun, respect and love. She is very helpful and very organized. The training includes a very nice program with understandable theory and practice for everyone, to develop at their own pace and to become a Yin Yoga teacher. The training ends with an exam in practice and an exam in theory and of course a beautiful certificate. For me, it was a life-changing and unforgettable journey on an extremely beautiful island.

This 75-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Marije was wonderful. Marije is very knowledgeable, well organized, and fully present. The structure and sequence of the weekends was carefully and thoughtfully arranged in such a way that precisely on the last day the whole program literally jelled for me. The content and assignments insured us all to be a prepared teacher to walk off and teach with confidence. Highly recommend this class.
