About this trip

On this retreat, we will do lots of yoga on the large outdoor yoga shala at this gorgeous and remote 200-acre resort on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. This land is adjacent to miles of a  pristine beach and lush jungle with the ocean to the west and the Sierra Madre to the East.  The focus is on moving our bodies! I think we are all craving in-person classes and so that is what we will do.  We will do Vinyasa, Power, Gentle and Restorative — covering all the basis.

The food is so fresh and healthy (much of it grown on site and lovingly prepared by the amazing staff). So the entire retreat  will be for your health and wellness, I suspect we all deserve this after  this crazy year. Yes, it has been an entire year since the Coronavirus pandemic started.

I was at this eco-retreat center just over a year ago. When I think of it now, it seems as safe a place as any since the retreat center stands alone. It is not part of a town. It will be easy to keep a healthy distance from all others. About half of the people that are signed up for the trip have already received Coronavirus vaccines.  The retreat center has a small staff that operates like a family.

The closest “town” is Juluchuca, which has about 550 residents at about 5 min (3 km) from Playa Viva. Then Petatlan which has about 25,000 residents and is located about 10 min (12 km) from Playa Viva. According to the staff member, as of January, Petatlan hadn't had any new cases in about three months. Staff will wear masks at all times.

The yoga decks are extremely large and the sleeping cabañas are very ventilated and large. All activities and meals are outside.

Before returning to the United States, a trained professional will come to the location and administer a COVID test in time for us to the the results for our flight.

Yes we have to get on a plane or two to get there and if you have not flown yet since the pandemic, I can send you an article on how clean the air quality on planes are these days. In addition, people are required to wear masks on planes. The flights are short. (When looking for flights, check Alaska going through LAX).

A big bonus is that out visit will help to restore and regenerate the ecosystems of the area and help this eco-resort continue to thrive in what has been a difficult year for them.  In the past, I have resisted bringing groups to retreat center because I wasn't interested in a bubble experience. Now, this seems like the best way to travel.

While on this retreat, we can just stay put at the site:

~ Participate in the turtle release and restoration

~ Relax at the pool or  beach in hammocks or launch chairs

~ Boogie board

~ Tour the garden where our food is grown

~ Walk beach or Jungle

~ Take a guided tour of property

~ Get a message on the beach in a shaded tent

~ Practice Yoga

~If conditions allow, paddle boards or surf boards can be borrowed onsite though the waves at this beach are a little too powerful generally speaking

These activities can also be arrange for a fee:

~ Ride horses on the beach

~ Whale watching

~ Visiting a family that lives in the Siera Madre totally off the land. It is an hour and a half away on an ATV

~ Possibly visit nearby ruins if they are open (they were closed during the COVID pandemic).

Yoga

I think we are all excited to move our bodies and be in a live, in person class. So we will do lots of this. We will have yoga twice daily in one of the two beautiful outdoor "shalas." Oh the stunning views of the beach, ocean and sunset! Kristen Addicks teaches Hatha, Power, Vinyasa and Gentle and Restorative Yoga. She will cater to requests and offer modifications to those that want them. The yoga offered is for all levels.

Yoga means “union.” To me, that signifies connecting us to all living things, and to that which is bigger than ourselves. That is why, on my retreats, we get out in nature. I seek to do yoga outside when possible. It is my mission to also provide you with a cultural experience which can change perspective and transform lives. The best part of retreats are the long lasting relationships that are made in the short amount of time we are together. Won't you come and join in the magic!

This trip was super fun and magical. Kristin is a wonderful yoga instructor with interesting flows and clear instruction. The treetop guides were funny and kind. The treetop yerts were whimsical and sweet. Yoga in the treetops was exhilarating and made me feel really connected with the redwoods and the beautiful Sterling’s Jays that joined us. So glad we could join this experience!

Our trip to PlayaViva was very relaxing and magical experience. Kristen's planning made our trip truly an "all inclusive" experience. I would highly recommend a trip led by Kristen.

We had a fantastic time! Kristen is a delicious yoga teacher, uniquely suited to teaching in the retreat setting. The retreat center was beyond beautiful - creative and comfortable open air lodgings right on the ocean. The food was spectacular. We loved everything about our experience!

I was dreaming of a vacation/retreat exactly like this. It exceeded my expectations in almost every aspect - the classes, the location, the accommodations, the food, the other participants.
