On this retreat, we will relax and restore at a gorgeous and remote 200-acre resort on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. This land is adjacent to miles of a pristine beach and lush jungle with the ocean to the west and the Sierra Madre to the East. The focus is on serenity, relaxation, and wellness with an opportunity to take part in culture, adventure and preservation. So there is something for whatever your heart desires on any given day.
Unique excursions are offered as well as a chance to help restore and regenerate wildlife and the local communities. I specifically chose this place after visiting and seeing their commitment to environmental sustainability. And I am currently convinced that it is the type of place to safely travel to as we reemerge after our coronavirus shelter in place. It is so spacious, you can easily keep a healthy distance from staff and attendees. The yoga decks are extremely large. I am excited to do this at this time. The sleeping cabañas are very ventilated and large.
A bonus is that the staff are so friendly, it feels like family even after visiting for a short stay.
In the past, I have resisted bringing groups to retreat center because I am not interested in a bubble experience. Instead, I want to witness new cultures unclose. What I love about Playa Viva is, even thought it is remote and relaxing, it has many cultural offerings off and on-site. You can can set your schedule and choose the activities that you want to participate in.
And right on-site, you can:
• Get a spa treatment on the beach in the shade
• Ride horses on the beach
• Hike in the jungle or nearby mountains
• Take cooking lessons
• Fish from shore
Offsite adventures
• Visit the fabulous fishing village of Zihuatanejo
• Snorkle in nearby Ixtapa
• Tour the closest little village of Juluchu and visit their candy making factory
• Temazcal sweat lodge
• Surfing, stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking in Barra de Potosi
• Visit local archeological site and museum
• Fish either with locals on panga or deep-sea fishing in larger vessel
• Usually one can visit a fully sustainable family farm high in the mountains to see how that is done. They grow, maiz, coffee, sugar, cacao, mango, coconut, and so much more and tell stories while serving you lunch. TO get there, you will be on an ATV for over an hour. We may not be able to do this one due to COVID-19 restrictions. Stay tuned.
The above activities are offered by Playa Viva for a fee. Or if you prefer more of a relaxed pace and schedule, all of these are at your fingertips anytime for free

COVID related information: Know that the retreat center stands alone. It is not part of a town. It has a small staff that operates like a family. The closest “town” is Juluchuca, which has about 550 residents at about 5 min (3 km) from Playa Viva. Then Petatlan which has about 25,000 residents and is located about 10 min (12 km) from Playa Viva. According to the staff member, as of January, Petatlan hadn't had any new cases in about three months. Staff will wear masks at all times.
Before returning to the United States, a trained professional will come to the location and administer a COVID test in time for us to the the results for our flight.
