On this retreat, we will escape our crazy world and really retreat and restore at a remote 200-acre eco-resort on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. This land is surrounded by miles of pristine beach and jungle at the base of the Sierra Madre Mountains. The focus is on wellness, culture, preservation, adventure. Unique excursions are offered as well as a chance to help restore and regenerate the landscape and communities. I specifically chose this place after visiting and seeing their commitment to environmental sustainability.
In the past, I have resisted bringing groups to retreat center because I am not interested in a bubble experience. Instead, I want to witness new cultures unclose. What I love about Playa Viva is, even thought it is remote and relaxing, it has many cultural offerings off and on-site. You can can set your schedule and choose the activities that you want to participate in.
• The most popular is visiting a fully sustainable family farm high in the mountains. This family lives completely off the grid and are self sustaining as they grow, maiz, coffee, sugar, cacao, mango, coconut, and so much more*
• Visiting the fabulous fishing village of Zihuatanejo+
• Snorkling in nearby Ixtapa+
• Touring the closest little village of Juluchu and visiting their candy making factory+
• Temazcal sweat lodge*
• Surfing, stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking in Barra de Potosi*
• Visit local archeological site and museum *
• Fishing either with locals on panga or deep-sea fishing in larger vessel*
And right on-site, you can:
• Relax at the pool and on the beach
• Get a spa treatment on the beach in the shade*
• Do lots of yoga
• Ride horses on the beach*
• Hike in the jungle or nearby mountains*
• Take cooking lessons*
• Boogie board
• Fish from shore+
To keep the overall cost down, activities that are additional costs are á la carte. You choose what you want to do and what you want to spend additional money on. Those with nothing behind them are free to you and included in the cost. The others are:
* - arranged on-site for an additional cost
+ - can be done on your own or arranged on-site for additional cost, you decide
Feedback that I have gotten from previous retreats is that MORE yoga is wanted. We will have yoga twice daily in one of the two beautiful outdoor "shalas." Both have stunning views of the beach, ocean and sunset. Playa Viva is has all the mats, props and cleaning supplies we will need. Kristen Addicks teaches Hatha, Vinyasa and Gentle Yoga. She will cater to requests and offer modifications to those that want them. The yoga offered is for all levels.
