About this trip

On this retreat, we will retreat and restore at a gorgeous and remote 200-acre resort on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. This land is adjacent to miles of a  pristine beach and lush jungle with the ocean to the west and the Sierra Madre to the East.  The focus is on serenity, relaxation, and wellness with an opportunity to take part in culture, adventure and preservation. So there is something for whatever your heart desires on any given day.

Unique excursions are offered as well as a chance to help restore and regenerate wildlife and the local communities. I specifically chose this place after visiting and seeing their commitment to environmental sustainability. The surprise was the warmth of the staff. It feels like a family even after visiting for a short stay.

In the past, I have resisted bringing groups to retreat center because I am not interested in a bubble experience. Instead, I want to witness new cultures unclose. What I love about Playa Viva is, even thought it is remote and relaxing, it has many cultural offerings off and on-site. You can can set your schedule and choose the activities that you want to participate in.

• You can visit a fully sustainable family farm high in the mountains to see how that is done.  They grow, maiz, coffee, sugar, cacao, mango, coconut, and so much more and tell stories while serving you lunch*

• Visit the fabulous fishing village of Zihuatanejo*

• Snorkle in nearby Ixtapa*

• Tour  the closest little village of Juluchu and visit their candy making factory*

• Temazcal sweat lodge*

• Surfing, stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking in Barra de Potosi*

• Visit local archeological site and museum *

• Fish either with locals on panga or deep-sea fishing in larger vessel*

And right on-site, you can:

• Relax at the pool and on the beach

• Get a spa treatment on the beach in the shade*

• Do lots of yoga

• Ride horses on the beach*

• Hike in the jungle or nearby mountains*

• Garden

• Take cooking lessons*

• Boogie board

• Fish from shore*

To keep the overall cost down, activities that are additional costs are á la carte. You choose what you want to do and what you want to spend additional money on. Those with nothing behind them are free to you and included in the cost. The others are:

* -  arranged for an additional cost

Feedback that I have gotten from previous retreats is that MORE yoga is wanted. We will have yoga twice daily in one of the two beautiful outdoor "shalas." Oh the stunning views of the beach, ocean and sunset! Kristen Addicks teaches Hatha, Vinyasa and Gentle Yoga. She will cater to requests and offer modifications to those that want them. The yoga offered is for all levels.

Yoga means “union.” To me, that signifies connecting us to all living things, and to that which is bigger than ourselves. That is why, on my retreats, we will get out in nature — the value of having sand in our toes and immersing ourselves in the ocean are an important component of the overall experience. On this adventure, we will look at things from a new perspective: swimming with creatures that live under water and hearing about the ancient Hawaiians. Most yoga classes will be outside in the warm breeze with the smell of tropical plants and sound of birds . We will will link poses gracefully with clear instructions and modifications. We will challenge ourselves occasionally and restore generously. The classes will build both strength and flexibility in a balanced way and I will sprinkle in wisdom from the ancient yoga texts.

Beautiful retreat, wonderful women and lovely accommodations. Kristen is an amazing yoga teacher in both the physical practice of yoga and the spiritual practice. Somehow i always hear what i need to hear in every class. Her retreats allow women to open up and express themselves. We also have a lot of fun and make new friends. Stress free traveling as everything is organized and you are taken care of. Highly recomend!

Most amazing location. Yoga on the beach with Kristen Addicks using palm trees as props. Homemade Poke Bowls with fresh fish caught that morning. Hawaii Islander Mimi Towle shared some great local-only actitivies.
Kristen and Mimi have amazing energy and everything was organized and well thought out. I loved yoga on the beach! Beautiful accommodations and yummy healthy food! So much fun!
