About this trip

**EARLY BIRD THROUGH OCTOBER 31**

Travel one thousand feet above stress level on this yoga eco-tour through the Dominican Republic. Tubagua is nestled between beaches and mountains, so we'll enjoy the best of both worlds. In addition to daily yoga and plenty of beach time, we'll hike to "God's Swimming Pool" to jump into waterfalls and natural baths, and we'll visit amber mines and a coffee plantation while traveling the "Ruta Panoramica." At Tubagua, dip into the cliffside pool or enjoy a DIY mud bath. By practicing responsible tourism, we'll support efforts to celebrate and help develop the local community. Our home at Tubagua is charming but rustic so we can soak up the fresh air and greenery. If you're looking to dive into culture and natural beauty, sign up! But if you're looking for a five-star resort, this may not be the right trip for you.

About Our Accommodations

While thousands of tourists pass through Puerto Plata, Tubagua Eco-Lodge takes pride in providing visitors with an authentic Dominican experience instead of a "tourist trap." The 12-acre plantation includes a natural spring and healing mud. From this spring, Tubagua is able to supply neighboring houses with running water. Root vegetables and other edibles that grow throughout the property are harvested to provide some of the food we'll eat, and more than 50 percent of what's grown is shared with local residents. Tubagua's structures are handmade using local, renewable resources, and the lodge opts for manual labor instead of machines in order to provide more employment opportunities for community members.

Eco-Lodge Style

Rooms are comfortable but simple and rustic, and leverage our gorgeous surroundings. All rooms have electricity, open-air windows for natural breezes (no air conditioning), and mosquito nets. Beds in all rooms can be configured as separate beds or shared beds, depending on your preference. Most of the rooms have shared bathrooms that will be right near your room. (If you would like a private bathroom, book a Casita! NOTE: Casitas are sold out, but ) Bathrooms have hot showers. One bathroom is famously known as "the loo with a view." There's free wi-fi, so you can stay connected. Three room styles are available: The Long House, The Palapas, and The Casitas (Update: Casitas are sold out.)

ALL-INCLUSIVE rates start at just $800 USD. (Exact rate depends on the room style you select.) EARLY BIRD RATES end October 31, 2016.

Karen Shelley
Karen began practicing yoga in 2004 as a way to integrate a healthy balance of movement and stillness into her life. Today, she delivers this balance to her students through studio classes in New York City, global yoga retreats, corporate classes, and private sessions in yoga. Her initial training was at Kula Yoga Project in New York City under the direction of Schuyler Grant and Nikki Vilella, with additional influences from Aarona Ganesan, Anya Porter, Nikki Costello, and Erin Dudley. Her teaching of restorative yoga has been inspired by Abby Paloma and Anamargaret Sanchez, and her teaching of pranayama has been inspired by Genny Kapuler. She weaves energy, fluidity, play, stillness, and tons of hands-on assists into her teaching, and blends a strong, internal metronome with the precision and alignment of Iyengar foundations.
