About this trip

A 10-Week Program of Guided Study and Practice
Yoga becomes a true mind-body discipline when asana is integrated with meditation and the study of anatomy and exercise science. Self-care is necessary for the overall well-being of those seeking greater strength and flexibility.

This program is designed for those who have some experience with yoga and meditation, and who wish to improve and integrate their practice. You will:

*     Learn in a small group of 10 select individuals.
*     Improve your skills and integrate them in a curriculum-based program.
*     Receive guidance from a top teacher in Houston, Michael Perkola.
*     Study intensely in 2-hour-long classes offered twice per week for 10 weeks (40 hours total).
*     Pay less and receive better quality instruction when compared to Yoga Teacher Training programs.

What’s included

ASANA is the practice of choreographed movements and poses, commonly called as “yoga.” These compositions provide their own inherent benefits while providing useful schema by which to observe the body and one’s skill in directing it. Michael will teach material selected from the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system.
Meditation
MEDITATION is the systematic development of awareness and attention. Michael will teach these techniques: Relaxation at Will, Bodily Awareness, Global Awareness, Concentration, Purification of the Energy Body, and Inner Silence.
Anatomy and Exercise science
ANATOMY is knowledge of the structures and functions of the human body. The muscular system is the main concern of the student of yoga.
EXERCISE SCIENCE is the knowledge of the methods by which to safely and effectively develop the human body. Modern, Western science offers corrections to misunderstandings found in the classical practice of asana. Michael will lead the study of functional anatomy and help students build a felt-sense map of their musculature.
Self-Care
SELF-CARE describes the systematic cultivation of flexibility and stability through conditioning exercises, self-myofascial release, and stretching. It also includes appropriate lifestyle choices, such as abstention from harmful substances and activities, the ingestion of appropriate nutrition, and the enjoyment of adequate rest. Michael will teach how to achieve both strength and flexibility while caring for the overall well-being of the body.

I teach people how to cultivate health, strength, and wisdom through yoga and meditation. I have sought self-awareness and self-mastery through meditation and martial arts since my teenage years. Now in my thirties, meditation and yoga have become my chosen methods of integrating and strengthening the body, mind, and spirit. I find robust health and deep meaning through these practices. I began teaching meditation in 2003. Prior to yoga, I studied martial arts, including Competitive Fencing and Japanese Swordsmanship. I began practicing yoga in 2011 and completed a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in March 2012. In 2012, I began teaching part-time and, in 2013, I dedicated myself to becoming a full-time yoga teacher and entrepreneur. I have taught at Houston's most popular yoga studios, at the Houston Ballet, and to many private clients. I have 4000+ hours of teaching experience.
