ASANA is the practice of choreographed movements and poses, commonly called as “yoga.” These compositions provide their own inherent benefits while providing useful schema by which to observe the body and one’s skill in directing it. Michael will teach material selected from the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system.
Meditation
MEDITATION is the systematic development of awareness and attention. Michael will teach these techniques: Relaxation at Will, Bodily Awareness, Global Awareness, Concentration, Purification of the Energy Body, and Inner Silence.
Anatomy and Exercise science
ANATOMY is knowledge of the structures and functions of the human body. The muscular system is the main concern of the student of yoga.
EXERCISE SCIENCE is the knowledge of the methods by which to safely and effectively develop the human body. Modern, Western science offers corrections to misunderstandings found in the classical practice of asana. Michael will lead the study of functional anatomy and help students build a felt-sense map of their musculature.
Self-Care
SELF-CARE describes the systematic cultivation of flexibility and stability through conditioning exercises, self-myofascial release, and stretching. It also includes appropriate lifestyle choices, such as abstention from harmful substances and activities, the ingestion of appropriate nutrition, and the enjoyment of adequate rest. Michael will teach how to achieve both strength and flexibility while caring for the overall well-being of the body.
