      About this trip

Shelley Carroll and Cara Griffin are teaming up to create Ohana in this curated yoga and surf camp adventure retreat.  Ohana means family in Hawaiian. The family you are born into, and the family you choose. Ohana emphasizes that families are bound together, and members must cooperate and remember one another. In Hawaiian culture, family is everything.  We will create Ohana together on this magical retreat!

We are not tourists.  We are visitors and travelers to this magical and special land, and this retreat will allow you to visit Maui, responsibly, ethically, and in partnership with the locals and the land.

We will practice yoga, take surf lessons with the world famous Maui Surfer Girls,  explore Maui, and we will also practice Hawaiian cultural values and giving back to the land-- ‘aina.

Our adventures will include the West Maui Mountains, Iao Valley,  Waihe'e Ridge, Lahaina Town, and an epic adventure!

We believe in keeping Hawaii beautiful and this trip is both planned to be socially, ethically, and ecologically responsible.

      Stay

Aloha!  Welcome to beautiful Camp Olowalu. Choose between dorm style cabins on the beach or go glamping in a single or double tentalow.

Camp Olowalu is located in Olowalu on the west side of Maui, offering incredible sunsets, and views of lanai, Kahoolawe, Molokini crater and on clear days - big island.  It is rustic, has it’s very own beach for turtle and whale watching, kayaking, and paddle boarding, and is located close to everything.

Check in time is after 3pm on January 21 ,and check out is at 8am on January 27th.

      Play

When we aren’t practicing yoga, learning to surf,  or lounging at Camp Olowalu, we will be exploring Maui with our local guides and experts.

We'll hike one of Maui's historical sites, Iao Valley State Park, visit Lahaina Town, climb the West Maui mountains to some of the most stunning views of Maui at Waihe'e Ridge, look for sea turtles and whales, and of course, surf’s up with Maui Surfer girls!

Want to continue the adventure?  Add on a road trip to Hana on January 27th, and stay an extra day.

      Taste

Expect fresh food that will make you drool.  From organic, local fruit and produce to the best açaí and poké bowls you can ever imagine— Hawaii will not disappoint.

We will have our very own chef for most meals, and a few opportunities to check out the local flavors of Lahaina town and Maui Brewing Co!  Maui will delight vegetarians, vegans, and seafood lovers alike, and there is always more for our omnivores!  We even have some special local treats that you are going to talk about for years.  Just ask Ludacris!

Give Back Hawaiian style -- ‘aina

In addition to create Ohana, we will also practice Hawaiian cultural values and giving back to the land-- ‘aina.

Have fun, learn lots, get dirty, and open your mind new experiences.

My experience was incredible! The Dominican Jungle Treehouse was breathtaking and I plan to return in the future. The entire Yoga Retreat was beautiful with delicious wholesome food, a wonderful, friendly and attentive staff, inlcuding the manager Alex who was on top of every detail. It's a gorgeous, clean place like no other. Shelley Carrol models excellence in business and Dancing Dogs Yoga overdelivers!

Another epic retreat in the books!! Such an awesome way to kick off my 50th birthday celebration! The food was delicious, the yacht was gorgeous, and the crew was fantastic! The swim stops were phenomenal and I’m so glad we had the chance to see the blue grotto! That heat wave did not stop me from having a great experience!

DDY Travels does it again. This was my second retreat and IT WAS EPIC! The accommodations & location were so luxurious and the challenge of doing yoga on a yacht was definitely a new experience. Such a perfect balance of yoga, meditation, relaxation, fun and adventure and the new friends made and experiences shared will forever be imprinted as some of the best times in my life. If you are thinking about joining a DDY Travels retreat...you will not be disappointed. Find your paradise now.

This retreat was such an incredible time. From the yoga itself, to exploring the National Park itself, to visiting the cactus garden at sunset, to exploring the town itself, Shelley created time and space to genuinely experience this magical space! I will always remember, however, that the desert is COLD in November!

I was fortunate enough to complete my YTT at the Dominican Tree House Village in El Valle, Samana. I am so thankful for Shelley and being able to share my yoga story. Shelley is a woman of many virtues but my favorite is her being able to hold space for diverse populations in yoga (BIPOC/LGBTQIA+). I was supported during my learning journey, and encouraged throughout my training to continue to create space for other individuals like myself. Our training was well organized, detail oriented, knowledgeable, and a healthy balance between learning, resting, and adventure! I was paired with the best roommate and suite mates ever! I am terrified of being in the jungle but knowing I was there with three other women, made it so worth while. Finally, Emma made the most amazing Dominican cuisine for us daily and the Tree House Staff were so hospitable. I would absolutely go on another training/retreat with Shelley and the crew!

What an amazing trip! This was my second DDY retreat and I will be back for more! The resort was beautiful, with a yoga Shala that looked out over the ocean and has a jungle backdrop! And on top of that, the food was amazing! The variety of both included and optional activities where amazing, in addition to the twice daily yoga. My personal favs were the sound healing, and the Mayan clay ceremony. The fellow retreaters where also amazing and really made it a trip to remember! Can’t wait for the next retreat!
