Reviews

I recently attended an artist residency here. The house itself is beautiful and the location is lovely, with some truly stunning hikes nearby. Liz, who looks after the property, is wonderful, and the meals were good. I especially loved some of the outings — the hikes were breathtaking, and the ceramics workshop was a highlight. I stayed in the Sol room, which was quite damp and the lighting was dim, making it hard to read or write comfortably. I was very grateful for the fireplace. When it came to doing deep work in the house, I found the environment wasn’t as conducive as I’d hoped. Music was often playing fairly loudly through the common areas, there was noise late at night, and the schedule — including meal times — shifted from day to day without a lot of clear communication. I mentioned this early on, but things didn’t change. For me, the combination of noise, constant music, and an inconsistent schedule made it hard to find the quiet, focused time I was hoping for, and I ended up getting less done than I’d planned. There were definitely things I enjoyed and appreciated about my time here, but overall it wasn’t the quiet, structured space I was looking for to support my creative work.
