This retreat with ADY was absolutely life changing. There’s life before Africa and life after Africa. The retreat was the perfect balance of unplugging from the crazy day-to-day life back in LA, mixed with a healthy dose of adventures with mobile game drives and a mobile safari to conclude the retreat, and near daily yoga sessions to ground us and really appreciate the serenity and tranquility of our landscape. Alex has curated such a special and intimate retreat, so thoughtfully planned to ensure the group got to experience all things yoga, appreciate the wildlife and nature, and also cultural activities to get to know the local lifestyle. The staff at munga plains were incredibly attentive and friendly - I wish I can cross paths with them again in life. The staff was welcoming, knew everyone on a first name basis, and became part of the retreat family by the end of the trip. The dancing session with local instruments and local hula skirts, the local cuisine, the calmness that came with being in such remote areas where we were the visitors in the animals world, leaves me feeling a newfound sense of gratitude for life and for finding peace in the everyday hectic nature of life back at home. Alex is such a precious human who really put in the thought and effort to create a magical experience - including but not limited to sunrise yoga on a river (with picturesque changing of landscape as the shades of the sky changed from dawn to all the beautiful shades of purple orange and pink as the sun rose), a river tour in the daytime that brought us up close and personal with all the wildlife (hippos, giraffes, elephants crossing the river right in front of us, etc), spotting cheetahs, countless impalas, local birds, lions eating their fresh kill within a couple feet from our vehicle, and so much more. Serenity doesn’t even begin to put into words how this trip changed my life- so many lessons learned from being in nature and reflecting on life by being out in the wilderness - patience, determination, knowing when to quit a pursuit, coordination and community for survival, taking things day by day because tomorrow is never guaranteed with animals, and so much more. The group dynamics was also perfectly considered, and although we all came from different walks of life, I can confidently say that I have made some life long friendships and would highly recommend this extremely special, one of kind experience with ADY if you are able to. I leave this retreat feeling more grounded than ever, feeling gratitude for life, and with never ending lessons learned from the animals and community I got to be part of through this retreat.
