I had the opportunity to help at the Foundation 'El Niño y la Bola'. A charity which is obviously so close to Kim and Alex's hearts. Three of us from me from UK, Linda Canada and Emily from the USA, made a great friendship supporting each other, sharing our experiences, and giving our time to teach the young children English, who live in a financially deprived area, yet have a wealth of enthusiasm and love for life, a beautiful community, eagerness to grab the opportunity to learn when they are on holiday.
Kim, Alex and Flore at Casa Alma made us feel at home, sending us off with a hearty, healthy tummy and a clean and welcoming place to stay. Pancake checked us in each day, ensuring her guests were all happy.
The week of planning and delivering learning with the children, who couldn't speak much English yet wanted to learn more and turned up each day, was so rewarding. The charity is so special, and we were welcomed to get involved in the walkabout and Kim's English class, which expanded meeting even more of the local volunteers and those involved regularly.
Kim also set up extra activities and a lovely spa at the end. I stayed longer and ventured to the east of Costa Rica for two days, and they ensured I got on the correct bus.
I had a great experience and felt blessed to again spend time with Kim, Alex and Flore.
I would recommend this opportunity, which, yes, challenged me, to do well for the children, yet gave me so much and opened my heart even further and lastly met beautiful new friends, who got me and helped me grow further.
Thankyou Kim for having me on your team and for all at El Niño y la Bola who made us so welcome.
