Our mission is to getting you off the beaten track and into the mountains, experiencing the best the Andes has to offer and catching a glimpse of the REAL Peru.
Forget about overtourism, live authentic experiences, get in touch with history and traditions, admire postcard landscapes and associate your passage with a positive impact on the territory: all this was possible thanks to the perfect organization of Apus Peru.
Warmly welcomed from the briefing in the hotel, we faced the clean-up trek of Huchuy Qosqo with a final visit to Machu Picchu in the best possible conditions.
Cutting-edge equipment (tents, sleeping bags and every other item made available are first-rate), a "magical" chef, capable of expertly preparing the most disparate dishes, always tasty and (sometimes almost too) abundant, perfectly organized and fast arrieros, attention and care for details (from the tent bathroom to the careful booking of hotels and restaurants in the part of the visit to Machu Picchu) and, above all, a friendly, cheerful, scrupulous and very competent guide, made our experience unforgettable.
If you are looking for "off the main path" adventures, you care about environmental issues (thanks to the clean-up option we got a discount and, above all, collected a lot of garbage along the way, mainly plastic objects) and you want to face the very crowded (but still stable) Machu Picchu in the best conditions, we recommend you rely on Apus Peru, the organizers Ingrid and Lois and our guide William for a trip that you will carry in your heart forever.
If you are seeking a truly exceptional journey through Peru, one that bypasses the crowds and unveils hidden gems off the beaten path, then Apus Peru is your perfect match. Apus and their entire team orchestrated an extraordinary experience that made our first visit to Peru unforgettable. We were especially delighted by our outstanding guide, Arturo. His depth of knowledge, meticulous attention to the itinerary, and vibrant personality made each day an absolute pleasure. Our driver was equally delightful—punctual, charming, and always ready for us with a warm smile.
While some of the trekking equipment showed signs of wear and could benefit from an update, this minor issue did not detract from our overall experience. In fact, it is easily remedied and hardly a blemish on what was otherwise a flawless adventure. All in all, our time with Apus was superb, and I would not hesitate to use their services again or to recommend them to anyone seeking a unique and memorable Peruvian adventure. Serena M.
We just came back from a 7-day Choquequirao Trek ending at Machu Picchu (https://www.apus-peru.com/tour/choquequirao-trek-to-machu-picchu-7d). What an amazing experience it was!
Peru is such a great country with welcoming people, mouthwatering food and ancient culture. Apus Peru made sure we had the best experience possible exploring it all! Starting with "getting to know us calls" prior to the trip and in person meeting as we were acclimating in Cusco, Apus team made sure we knew what we were getting into - one of the most challenging of their treks. They didn’t sugar coat anything and as such our group of 7 ranging in age from 11 to 62 was well prepared (an extra emergency horse helped provide peace of mind).
The Choquequirao trek is magnificent. It takes your breath away - figuratively and literally - as it is one of the most challenging routes in the area. However, our guide, cooks and horsemen made sure we were well taken care of. Let’s start with horsemen - super humans always in a great mood, helping us start the days with coca tea, leading the horses and packing and unpacking the camps as we make our way.
The cooks - Lenardo and his assistant - are super humans in their own way. They served us three meals and snacks and pre dinner tea with snacks daily. The menu was local and totally amazing and the presentation … well 5-star restaurant doesn’t describe it. Drinks, soups, main dishes we never heard of - my kids who are not fans of veggies and soups normally would gobble them up in no time.
And finally our guide - Arturo! He was a gem! His knowledge of local customs and cultures, sites that we visited and families on whose land we stayed ensured that we had the best experience possible. He got to know the strengths and weaknesses of all 7 of us pretty quickly and would adapt the trekking time and speed to our abilities…. Or he made sure that we would never trek at the height of the heat unless it were necessary - which we greatly appreciated. He was very patient as some of us found our stride while the teenager kept up with the horsemen. I think he also might have his way with the condors as when we were ready to leave the valley - we saw one :).
When you reserve a tour with Apus, you pick a certain category of hostel and hotel for the last two nights. Apus team made sure to pick good quality locations within that price range. What’s more, at the end of the trip when the cooks left, Apus picked amazing restaurants for our celebratory dinner and lunch at Machu Picchu. They treat you as a guest in their country and not just as a paying unit… Overall undoubtedly a 5-star rating to Apus for making sure our trip was such a success!
The Ausangate trekking with Apus Peru
The Ausangate trekking was breathtaking in every way! To hike at an altitude of around 5000m and camp in frigid temperature is not an easy feat but it was worth it. The majesty of the glacier was simply amazing. Also, I have never dreamed of seeing the Milky Way so clearly. Our group of four was assisted by Aggripino, Miguel and Juan, three hard working muleteers. Leandro, our cook, fed us great food fit for the trekking. Finally, our awesome guide Arturo was very attentive and knowledgeable. A unique experience.
