My wife and I are just back from Around Admiralty Island with Betty Sederquist. The trip far exceeded our expectations by far. The Delphinus II held eleven people including crew. Our skippers, Pat and Hans, proved to be extremely experienced and knowledgeable about where we were going and what we could see and do. Hans led most of the hikes and his enthusiasm and humor kept us interested. They were great at picking out wildlife before anyone else spotted it. They both clearly love what they are doing and it showed in the way they presented information and possibilities.
Melissa, our onboard chef created wonderful meals that were often hot and steaming as we returned from excursions. There was never a lack of snacks between meals. Jack was almost constantly in motion as deckhand assisting both skippers, chef and any of us who needed help. They were both really nice young folks. Betty was fun to talk with, and often provided helpful advice for photographing upcoming situations.
The itinerary was flexible and allowed for time to stop along the way when unexpected whales, orcas or other wildlife appeared. Multiple skiff rides and hikes kept us busy during the day when we were not cruising to a new location. I felt really grateful that we had such a nice group of photographers. We all got along well.
We saw many humpbacks and orcas, sea otters, Dall’s porpoises, eagles, brown bears and loads of spectacular scenery including a huge, calving iceberg. It was a wonderful photography tour.
