I had the privilege of spending two days birding with Birding the Strait at the end of May. The company came highly recommended by a Spanish birder I met during a birding trip to Winnipeg, Canada, and it more than lived up to that recommendation. Guided by Fernando, we birded primarily in the Cádiz and Tarifa areas. It was a wonderful experience, yielding more than 70 bird species, including several rarities. Fernando was not only an excellent guide with a remarkable ability to locate difficult-to-find birds, but he was also a pleasure to spend time with. I particularly enjoyed our conversations about the local environmental issues affecting birds and other wildlife in the region. If you are looking for a high-quality birding experience led by guides who are both knowledgeable and welcoming, I highly recommend Birding the Strait. They provide a productive, informative, and thoroughly enjoyable birding experience.

This is our fifth trip out with birding the straits and our first with Fernando who maintains the excellent guiding tradition of our previous visits. Fernando was totally professional , knowledgeable, extremely enthusiastic and quick thinking and flexible when we requested some last minute changes in our itinerary due to our group's requirements. The bird sightings were fantastic and plentiful and we totally enjoyed every minute of our day with him. All our target birds were found and lots more. Thanks again 🤩

Our guide Nacho Barrionuevo could not have been better. He was very informative and took us on a brilliant morning’s tour to include birds on the coast and those migrating across the Gibraltar Straits. I highlyrecommend him and the company who are extremely responsive and efficient..

This was the first time we had a private birding tour, and as relatively inexperienced birders we were blown away with the experience. Door to door pick up by Nacho, in a comfortable vehicle, we were immediately feeling great in his company. The company were already aware of our birding experience and had asked for any specific species we were looking for. We were happy to see any birds, but interested in migration. Nacho took us to Observatorio de aves de la playa de los Lances. where we were introduced to species we hadn’t seen before with explanations on variations across countries. Who knew there were Spanish sparrows and different starlings?? It was especially enjoyable as we saw a flock of garganey fly past, much to the obvious enthusiasm of Nacho . Further visit inland proved to be just as interesting where we stopped to eat our picnic lunch. We had been asked if we wanted a restaurant lunch but chose to provide our own lunch to get maximum time ‘in the field’ . Up in the hills we got to see the migrating black kites coming in, vultures on the crags and little swifts which caused great excitement. A final visit to La Janda nature reserve with fabulous eagles and little birds a plenty. Sub alpine warbler, wheatear shrike, Cetti’s warbler, and a whole lot more. Through out the trip Nacho gave us information on the history of the area, from cave paintings to how La Janda was drained. We had a fabulous time, enjoying both the wildlife and conversation with Nacho who was so easy to get on with. It was the first day of our holiday and memorable in so many ways. When visiting Gibraltar, a day trip into Southern Spain seemed a good idea. We visited La Janda which was very dry due to the weather and finished at Sierra de la Plata. We had an incredible day birdwatching and seeing a very beautiful part of Spain! Yeray was patient and very knowledgeable and he made the trip really fun for both of us! The highlight was the amount or raptors we saw including Spanish Imperial Eagle, Griffon & Black Vulture, Bonelli's Eagle & Black-winged Kite. Thank you so much! We had an incredible day!
