We chose the 4-Day/3-Night Cultural Zone tour with Bonanza Tours because we were short on time, though we originally wished we could have done a longer reserve zone trip. Any hesitation evaporated immediately—we ended up being the only ones on the tour, giving us a completely private, tailored, and intimate experience in the Amazon.
The sheer beauty of the rainforest is stunning, and we were incredibly lucky with wildlife sightings. We saw capybaras, tapirs, deer, macaws, monkeys, snakes, spiders, and so many birds. Our absolute highlights included the hummingbird garden, the tapir clay lick and the river boat journeys.
Our guide, Ryse, truly made the trip. Having lived in the rainforest his entire life, his passion for the jungle is infectious. We loved chatting with him during meals, learning about local conservation efforts, hearing what life is like as a jungle guide, and listening to his incredible stories.
The lodges we stayed at were exceptionally clean and comfortable. Ryse mentioned they are currently in the process of upgrading them, so they are only going to get even better!
As for the food—wow. I have no idea how our chef managed to whip up such massive, delicious feasts three times a day. We didn't just eat well at the lodges; we were served beautiful platters of food at random rest stops along the road and right on the river boat!
Bonanza Tours is not the cheapest option out there, but you absolutely get what you pay for. It is worth every penny for the superb organization, comfort, and above all, their genuine care for the rainforest. If you want an authentic, unforgettable Manu experience, book with them!
