Our primary reason for visiting Peru was to visit Machu Picchu, and we especially wanted to experience Circuit 2 at Sunrise. Well, the team at Cusco Local Friend delivered, and then some! They were able to secure hard-to-find admission passes, and they arranged our bus tickets to/from the site as well. Our guide, Roberto, did a great job of teaching us about Inca and Machu Picchu history (including spirituality, medical advances, astrological knowledge, etc.), all the while pacing our walk through the site so that we magically got to the right spots just at the right times to experience daybreak throughout the citadel. We even took a little detour onto Circuit 3 to see a couple gems that we would have otherwise missed. It was a day that we'll never forget!

What an amazing day! Cusco Local Friend was amazingly flexible in building an itinerary that worked for us (starting with a pick-up at our hotel in Cusco, and dropping us off at our hotel in Ollantaytambo). On the way, we visited an archaeological site and a fabric weaving experience in Chinchero, the Maras Salt Mines, and the Moray agricultural site. We had a great lunch, then we continued on to Ollantaytambo, where we toured (and climbed!) the archeological site there. All the way, our guide (Ferdinand) did a great job of teaching us about the history of the Inca people and the areas we traveled through. We'd highly recommend this tour (and Cusco Local Friend)!

What a great introduction to Cusco city! Our guide, Ferdinand, was super knowledgeable about the city's history. We visited the city market, where we got to sample some great local food. We toured the cathedral and learned fun 'secrets' about how the Incas quietly and even humorously resisted colonization. We popped into a couple shops that were recommended for high quality and reasonable prices. We even got some good advice about how to acclimate to the 2-mile high elevation (hint: stay hydrated, avoid high fat foods and alcohol for at least a couple days).
