A huge thank-you to MFWO. My family and I (mom, dad, and 17 and 19 year-olds) had an absolutely fantastic voyage down the Middle Fork with their guides. We were looking for a new kind of adventure, and boy, did we ever find it!
If you've never taken a multi-day rafting expedition, it is hard to know quite what to expect - even when you do your homework. MFWO made the experience exceed my expectations in many ways. All seven on our crew were so kind, funny, energetic, patient and extremely attentive to our needs, wants and questions. They were such pros - so practiced in every aspect of setting up a comfortable camp, fixing delicious meals (the food was truly outstanding), catering to special requests, packing us up efficiently each morning, chatting and entertaining us all day on the water, pointing out fun hikes to take, spotting wildlife for us, engaging with guests young and old, and - perhaps most importantly - piloting our rafts safely through the rapids of the Middle Fork.
A totally unexpected delight for my family was observing the teamwork and camraderie of our guides. You could just see how much they really enjoyed being together, relying on one another and savoring their time together on the river. I think this was their 10th trip down the Middle Fork just in that summer, and I can report they move as a well-oiled and high-spirited machine. Their enthusiasm and fun was infectious and really helped us all to enjoy ourselves from put-in to take-out. They were some of the funnest people I have been around in a long while, and I wanted the trip to go on and on. Sadly, it was just five nights. We will treasure our memories on the Middle Fork with MFWO.
We signed up for a trip that already had eight other rafters whom we'd never met. It was a roll of the dice, but again we had such wonderful luck, joining a family and friend group from Wisconsin, and a father and son from Idaho. We had such fun getting to know each other over the week, sharing meals and laughs, braving the rapids together and talking around the campfire each night.
I had never rafted and was apprehensive about the rapids. But, in mid-August, they are nothing to fear. Just splashes and excitement, never really any sense of danger. I'm sure that part of my comfort came from the guides' mastery of the river and their reassuring demeanor. I hear the river in June may be a very different kind of adventure. Having ridden the water in August, I now think I'd like to give June a try!
There are lot of outfitters running the Middle Fork, and it's a little bit of luck we ended up with MFWO - my family had a narrow window of time when all four of us could make the trip, and MFWO happened to have a launch date that worked for us. But I am so glad it worked out this way. MFWO guides Thrice, Maddie, Corby, Kai, Paul, Kevin and Trey each exhibited kindness, enthusiasm, skill, patience and humor and were clearly eager to enable us all to get the most out of our precious few days on the Middle Fork. We wholeheartedly recommend MFWO and will absolutely float with them next go 'round!
