I had a great time on the retreat this year. So many happy tears were shed and this experience truly left me speechless!

I had a great time meeting other black female entrepreneurs. Truly the best part of this event is the networking and idea exchanges with other entrepreneurs. I was not happy with the accommodations. For the amount of money paid for the retreat the accommodations did not feel up to standard. During the last event (Sunday Brunch), the minister gave a “testimony” about her life. She spoke about how she was raped in church which lead to her “turning” gay. This sort of language and belief is not only dangerous but homophobic. There is no correlation between trauma and rape and one’s sexuality. The most disturbing part of this was that the leaders of the retreat and guest speakers all cheered and affirmed her belief and these thoughts. Everyone is entitled to their religion and belief system but in 2023 this felt thoughtless and antiquated. I hope that at the next retreat your speakers can be more inclusive and thoughtful about their message. Black female entrepreneurs come from all different back grounds, and unfortunately your retreat seems to fit only one type.
