We had a wonderful tour guide named Lincoln. He was knowledgeable, friendly, informative, and considerate. He definitely enjoys his job! The tour was good; the weather not so much. Rain and hail limited us to the hike only, although Lincoln did offer to get out the bikes. One point worth mentioning is that the road from the park entrance to the parking area is unbelievably rough: about 30 minutes of bumps, holes, and deep ruts. Lincoln navigated it well, but it was a difficult ride. We made the ascent to the refuge without too much trouble. We just took lots of breaks. Going back down was easier and definitely shorter. Try not to worry about all the lava rock winding up in your shoes. Also note that If you need to go to the restroom at the top, it will cost you a quarter!
